So as some of you know I moved not to long ago into a house. Ever since I've been in a constant state of trying to organize, clean and setup things up how I want. Often changing things as I go or after things are set move it all around again. I always wanted an indoor space that was just for me to relax (outdoor space is for another year). Yes being alone means the whole place is mine as was pointed out by my parents but I still wanted to setup a place that wasn't for entertaining friends etc and just a nice place to sit and relax that was setup purely for me to enjoy and if others happened to enjoy it on occasion fine. So I've ended up with this pet room. Left to right is as follows. A 24x18x24 for a vine snake currently on hold. Still have to set up the misting system. The plants were just added today. The larger cage is a 48x24x16 holding Mushu. Top cage is 24x24x12 awaiting an MBK (unknown date of when it will be occupied as you can tell I'm ready). My cat Nahla hanging out on top of a reclining love seat. She likes sitting on the top when people are on a couch hence the blanket which is easier to keep clean then constantly vacuuming the couch. Obviously her cat tree/scratching post I made and my 10g planted aquarium with a few guppies in it.

That's the spot I was sitting ;) Perfect vantage point to look at everything and place to put my beer.

I love seeing couches that don't have TVs directly across from them. Looks like a great space to just relax and enjoy your animals :) Wish I had a spare room to do that with. I do have a decent walk-in closet where my tarantula collection is housed, but I wouldn't be able to set up seating in there.

No TV's going in that room or sound system. Not what the room is for.

Nice space!

I'd like a closer pic of that planted aquarium - it looks pretty.

I have to do a water change on it today but I'll snap a close up once it's all done being cleaned up.

Very nice! I've actually just finished converting our spare room into something similar. I don't have a couch - just a computer desk and chair. But, I'm surrounded by all my herps. It's nice to be able to just go sit and watch them. Anyway, well done!

Thanks, my desk is in the basement. I'd never get any work done if I was surrounded by distractions. I don't use my desk often but I'll be back in school for a few weeks so will need a space to work and study.

A close up and further back the view I have from the couch. A few male guppies and a couple khuli loaches who are hiding right now.

I could spend a lot of time in there for sure. Nice.

Well done. A couple things: I'm a huge fan of planted tanks, what all is in the left side there? I think I can see mosses, Anubias and Java Ferns? I also see helmets, what do you ride?

We don't have a dedicated herp room as such (although 1 living area has been taken over by herps), we have herps in four rooms in our house.

Beautiful tank, is it dirted? Your sword is extremely healthy! I've got a 33gal planted that I plan to rescape soon - I've actually been into fishkeeping longer than reptile keeping. I never tire of seeing beautiful tanks such as yours.

I think everyone needs a haven! Yours looks lovely and tranquil. Mine is a craft room, that I am currently rearranging so my (future) hatchling will have a safe place to be too (away from two super enthusiastic dogs).

That's my plan lol

It was supposed to be just Anubias on the left, the Brazilian sword on the right. I was trying a micro sword as a foreground grass type plant for awhile but the Malaysian trumpet snails kept uprooting them so I gave up. There was also a moss ball which has broken apart now. The java fern was a stowaway. Must have hitched a ride on the sword from another tank I had. Every now and then I end up with a lot of other moss as well, not sure the exact type. Go figure I can grow it when not trying but when I tried it died.

The blue one is my dads old snowmobile helmet. I keep it because it's a memory growing up doing laps in the front yard on the snowmobile. The orange and black is my modular snowmobile helmet. I ride sleds and now getting into ATVs. Winters lately have kind of sucked around here. Last year was good snow wise but had machine trouble. Piston blew the year before and then after that got fixed last year a stud put a hole in the heat exchanger. So last year was a bust.

Thanks, this is the only planted tank I could keep this green. I tried to plant a 35g and it wasn't a great success, I changed that tank so many times and different fish and decor. Tried unsuccessfully to breed a few times, the only person alive who couldn't breed a proven trio of convicts. My power knows no bounds . It's Fluval stratum, expensive stuff. It's good for plants but not really feasible in larger tanks, cost a small fortune in bigger tanks. I've been keeping fish since grade school when I won a goldfish. Now just have this tank left, got rid of my 35g when I moved 2 years ago. Figured if I wanted another big tank later on down the road move up to a 40g breeder or a 55g and open a lot more options. In a couple years I'll build a goldfish pond in the backyard. Have to wait for that as it will cost a couple grand I'm sure. Moving more into reptiles now but still have this tank. Tried to get rid of it before my last move to save hassle but the guy backed out last minute so now I'm just keeping it. Nice addition to the room anyway.

Time to update with the new addition.

There was a delay in adding the snake as I tore it apart to put a drainage layer of hydroballs and replanted it. Snapped a few pics of cage as it sits now and the new addition to the room. Meet CriKee an Indonesian vine snake. Used the shade from my hand in the store for security. Few shots from when he was put into the cage and staring me down while I was sitting on the couch. He ate my first attempt earlier this week which was great. To bad Mushu refused his first meal ever :(

I'll update the plant growth as it progresses. He is often hanging out in the upper right side but I catch him moving around elsewhere from time to time. I think the quieter environment of my house is already doing wonders for him. Lady at the store who fed him said he was shy, have to leave his food in a bowl hidden and then leave him alone to eat. He would eat that way though. But here he was striking at his food within seconds of me putting in it the cage and closing the door. I was still standing there and he couldn't care less he just had his eyes on the prize. A room in a house with 1 person is big difference then center of a retail store. Nice to see is calmer.

Lol thanks

They are now on a different floor from my sound system which is plenty loud. Usually only have the sub and speakers up half wayish. Can be heard clearly around the house. Results of good quality setup lol. Though that's supposed to be a more quiet peaceful place not blasting death metal with the vibrations going through the floor :P

Beautiful snake and set up blaze! How did you adhere the perches? Are they regular wooden dowels? I need to get a few for my carpets that are on the way.

Thanks, I'm happy how it's turned out. This is my first planted terrarium attempt.

They are bamboo sticks I bought at dollerama about 5ft long 4 for 2.50 and cut to fit. They are just friction in place. Vines are so light that he glides over them. Took a couple wrong cuts before I got the right length to stay. For heavier snakes you'll need something else to keep them up. The bamboo helps it look more natural and personally I think tropical.

Thanks, I'm not at all an artist, I can barely draw a stick figure with a ruler but this is my form of expression. Setting up aquariums or now terrariums. I'll probably be overhauling two of them in the near future for new inhabitants and replanting the vine snake tank as some are dying from the misting system. I prefer natural looking setups so try to do it as best I can.

Vine setup is looking very nice my friend. hows the humidity battle going? Did you seal up the top? what is the red and yellow plant you have in the back called?

trailblazer295
08-26-15, 02:52 PM
The battle is still going, overnight it's a strong 90-95, day time before the next mist cycle drops to 70ish I think. I haven't found glass to cover it yet, I'm a bit concerned about not enough ventilation and fresh air sealing off too much. Those are the crotons, but two seem to be dying so have to replace those soon. The good news is he took a rat pinkie today instead of mice. The hoppers were quite feisty so I thought I'd try a rat pinkie instead, they were the same size but no danger to him. He is shy about eating infront of people at the store. I left it in a dish all night as he didn't seem to care that it was there. This morning I caught him swallowing the pinkie so he was okay with the swap. I feel better now, I can leave him be to eat in peace. I'm not sure if it was partly due to when I first fed last week he happened to be right above where I put the dish and this time was on the far side so might have been he wasn't aware it was there as every time I checked in on him he hadn't moved from that spot. Both snakes ate so that's good, Mushu refused last week.

Mine are in an exo terra as well and I have all the top sealed except where the lights are. so between the gaps around the lights and the venting on the front I find its the perfect amount of ventalition. also Iif the lowest your humidity hits it 70% thats great. Just as long as its staying above the 60s youre good to go. Ill try to remember to take a picture of how i sealed the top of mine and post it here for you.

trailblazer295
08-26-15, 05:04 PM
I'm pretty sure it hits 65-70 sometimes too as well which I'm not happy about. Just haven't found a solution to remedy that. I'm using the 30sec every 2hr cycle like you. I know mistking is working a humidistat control for there misting system so that might be what I need. Where did you get the materials to cover your top?

reptiledude987
08-26-15, 05:20 PM
On the top of the exo lids theres the plastic dividers that divides it into 4. i cut pieces of cardboard that fit snug into those sections (leaving space for lights of course). then wrapped the cardboard in tin foil as its waterproof and wont let the cardboard become saturated. put them in place then used the silver heat tape to hold them in place and seal any smaller gaps.

What's in the Exoterra? Your other cages contain Ball python?

trailblazer295
08-26-15, 07:38 PM
Exo terra is the vine snake, BP is in the bottom cage, top one is empty. But I'm in the process of researching BCIs. So most likely a juvie will occupy the top cage until it grows up enough to swap with the BP in the bigger one. Seems most males only grow not a lot bigger then my guy and he just sits in one spot most of the time as it is.

BP is ball python, my little buddy and first snake Mushu. There is a thread somewhere with all the abbreviations, I'm still learning them myself. Perhaps a mod can link it.

Sorry for the wait I was finally able to get the pic to upload. This is how I have the top sealed for my vines. It works well for maintaining both head and humidity. Right now I dont even have my heat lamps on and it sits around 82.

Sorry I dont know why the picture is upside down but should s give a general idea
