Male Corn Snake (http://augusta.craigslist.org/pet/5111982592.html)
The lighting is dark but it looks like a very interesting color, my best guess is maybe an Anery Bloodred? but I'm still learning so would love to know others' opinions. He's cute either way, would snatch him up in a heart beat if my remaining space wasn't claimed already.

Uhh the light is soo bad, that I really can't tell. Can be as well some type of ghost or charcoal, pewter... I can't guess if he is more "grey" or "brown&pink/orange". :(

He looks very dehydrated. I would be wary of this bc of the really low price and the condition of the animal. He would absolutely have to go through a extensive quarantine. I would have a ton of healh questions for the seller. Buyer beware!

Curious to know what it is that you are seeing specifically that makes you suspect the snake is unhealthy? Not doubting you, I'm genuinely curious to know and might as well turn everything into a learning experience.

Buyer should always beware when dealing with Craigslist.

That said, I don't know about dehydrated, but he does seem a bit on the thin side for my preference. Also, seems a bit dull. That dullness could be a shed coming up soon, dehydration, poor husbandry, or just part of his colors, which look muddy to me. That being saod 50$ is a great deal for all that stuff. Just make sure if you get hom, that you quarintine him for a minimum of one month, preferably more than that.

Well, it appears that his length belies his weight and the vertebral column is prominent. The lateral folds seem withdrawn. I would be curious as to what his weight is. Just seems like he should be thicker or at least fuller. Look at where he is also, crawling over a water dish with no water in it? Just off the photos alone I would be suspect. Why don't you get the details from the seller, age , weight, feeding regularity, illness history and where the seller got him. Then check some reputable breeders of corn snakes and compare your details with animals of the same age and weight. Good luck. Just my 0.02 cents.

He's in a flower pot saucer on a matress...not an empty water dish. As for the other indicators, no idea what you're looking at or how you can see that kind of detail with those crapy pics.

TxScarlet, did you make a decision on him?

Ok , kool. I thought that was his water dish. I can see the physical deficiencies bc I have a trained eye when it comes to reptiles. I have been doing physical exams on people and reptiles for the past thirty years. Can I miss something , sure. TxScarlet, in the classifieds on this site there is a corn snake for sale why don't you take a look at that animal and compare him to the Craiglists corn. :D The price is a bit more but when you buy cheap you get cheap. A reptile is a investment, why not start with something healthy?

Thank you guys for all your replies! I'm not getting this one. Even though it looks as though it would be an interesting color I'm not knowledgeable yet to take on a potentially unhealthy snake. I foolishly took that risk with my current young corn and I intend to be a bit wiser for my third snake. And on top of all that I want to have a bit of diversity so I'm looking for something other than corns right now, though it's always fun to look!

Seems every thread you get involved in leads to this :P You're really making me want one...but I can't have Westerns, which is what I would really want, when I move to Alberta :( All this teasing! Maybe I could get a Mexican hognose......
