I just saw a video that displayed an example of this species. Called a boelens python. It appears to be heavily protected and consequentially there are none in the US. Just curious if anyone has even handled one.

There are some in the US. They're just rare. From what I've read, they were very difficult to breed in captivity. I think a few people may be figuring it out. There was one for sale a few months ago on a FB group.

I guess you watched the new Crittacam video? I saw Peter posting photos of the Boelen's a few days ago. I'll watch the video when I get home from work.

Yep. That's one of the feeds I have for new types to look around for, though this one seems to be pretty hard to take care of.

And well up into the thousands of dollars per animal. They're beautiful though.

They're very hard to breed, it's only been successfully done in captivity a few times. Keepers have the husbandry down now, however if you're not confident in your skills then it could be a huge mistake to get one of these. They're also very expensive. I come across farmed imports from time to time. They're amazing species though and tend to be docile adults.

Oh trust me. I am very well aware that these guys are difficult to care for from all of the sites so far. I also don't have the 5k (from what I saw) to pay for one.
