SD retics activity levels.

Hi!
I'm having a question out of curiosuty for all owners of SD retics. Is it true that they are active soo much, that it's hard to hold them? I mean, everyone on yt or other forums are like "wow, I'll be don't able to hold them, they're so fast".

I really like SD's, and maybe in a distant future I'll think about getting one... just not in a next few years, haha!

i can't speak for all, but my SD (50%) is constantly on the move...he's not "difficult" to hold, you just are constantly "redirecting" :D

I have a pure Kalatoa, he'll be a year on 8-26. He used to come out all the time and perch. I've had him since March and quite honestly I don't get him out much because he's so fast and still so small that I'm worried about him taking off. It's hard for me to hold onto him sometimes. There's a lot of small holes and places to escape in the house we currently live in. But like MDT said, I have to constantly redirect him. They're pretty cool though.

Every one of my SDs (I've got two pures and four crosses) as well as my brother's pure are very active. They like to cruise around. Thankfully none of mine are pushers though.

Mine isn't a pusher either. He has a lot of space. He gets pretty crazy when it comes to food though.

My 50%SD/25% dwarf is quite active while handling it seems but nothing more than an active corn of similar size would be... Also very food orientated but easily handled so far.

Both my pure kalatoas are super hyper. My male is the one that doesn't sit still ever when I've got him in my hand. My female used to be the same way but has become quite the joy to handle. She doesn't Just sit there by any means but not so much constant redirecting like my male. All my dwarves are a little less hyper and my mainlands are rather sedate in contrast.

yea ive got a superjamp, and even before she had a brain swap with the devil, she would never stop moving. made me wonder how anyone ever got a picture of any of their snakes. they are just set on a mission and dont stop till they find it...

We've got some tricks, but a lot of it comes down to patience, luck, and taking 100 pictures and getting one good one. :)

Adrian, the Bali yellowheads are technically "mainlands", they belong to the reticulatus reticulatus ssp. They just arnt the giants you think of when mainland is thrown out there.lol. I do plan to get a bigger locale in the future but no plans to get some anytime soon. Besides we're down to 23 days til our latest addition is expected to arrive.lol

I know it's scary how fast 9 months goes by. They're all doing great. My jampea female is really packing on the weight now. Kalatoa female is still growing steady, male kalatoa is still sooo tiny. Bali female is already close to 8 feet long. Selayar female isn't biting me so much anymore.lol. Male jampea wants to kill me(breeding mode). Bali male is becoming less shy. And all the other scaled and shelled animal are doing great. How's the SD? And the rainbows?

Yes, you think the 9 months goes by fast just wait.....mine just turned 10 months! Sounds like everyone's doing good for ya, my SD is still tiny too. He's still crazy, especially when food comes around. Still very flighty but not bitsy so that's good. My rainbows are still growing and doing great. Over 2 years old now.
