Hi there. Long time no see. I got good help last time, so here i am again.
I have recently learned that there is a difference between a Darwin and irian jaya subspecies of carpet pythons.
I thought they were the same species. just a latin version and a English version.
So what is mine?
I have this video of him outside on a hot summer day. I hope you can tell the difference by the video. I have a hard time seeing any difference in photos.

If you don't know it's most likely IJ. It looks IJ in the video but it's not a good enough quality video to really tell.

I second that. "Looks" to be IJ. Without lineage information you can never know.
Beautiful snake though, carpets have lovely iridescent sheens when out in the sun.

Thanks for the replies guys. I kinda think so too by looking at pictures online. But i am still not sure, because i have seen Darwins look allot like mine.
What is the main difference anyway?

Thanks. Yeah he sure shines in the sun. It amazes me every time.
I like giving him some open space outside when the weather is right. It's unfortunately rare that the weather is acceptable for an Australian snake here in Denmark.

Darwins and IJ's are similar, but there are still noticeable differences.
Here's my IJ

The color looks different, but i have seen IJ's and Darwins with similar color.
looking at some different pictures again, i can see that the patterns are similar, but not identical. The Darwin looks a little more tiger striped.
It's an IJ i have, i can see it now. Thanks for the help guys.

We have two Darwins ourselves (plus 3 albino Darwins), and after seeing your video have to say it looks more like an Irian Jaya.
