Ha thats exactly how I feel. it took me $17 USD today to fill up my tank from just below half. and that was pumping 87 octane.

Hey, considering the day I've had, I'll gladly pay for "Premium" right about now.

Gas in the States is Cheap compared to gas in Canada. Right now gas is 79.9 Cents per litre in Calgary. A small Jetta should not cost $40.00 to fill. Man i'm going to have to start riding my bike at this rate.

Hey Greg... you've got it good, it's 84.9 here... and they're talking about adding PST onto gas too, which would raise it to about 88.1... OUCH :(

It's given me added incentive to learn how to drive my mom's car (a standard), because I can't afford to drive my dad's big beast of a truck anymore!

Aww man... quit your whining, get off your lazy butts and WALK. (Or ride your bike.....)

You have legs, USE 'EM!!!!

Not only will you save thousands on gas, insurance, repairs, you won't need that gym membership anymore!

Hmmm I'm not sure I want to walk to the next show. it's about 2.5 hours highway driving. if i leave now i might make it in time.

But these gas prices are due to the unrest in the middle east, and USA's threat to attack.

Even though here in Canada we produce our own oil. Yay OPEC!

Here in the states, I am paying about $1.53 a gallon

Greg West

That means you are paying about 40 cents per litre. I would consider yourself lucky. We supply the states the gas, but because of all of the taxes imposed on the gas we pay , well double what the americans have to pay. Tell me how that is fair.

You forget, I am a selfish, selfish man :D the less I have to pay, the better. ;)

Some economist on a Radio program the other day pointed out something very disturbing. The government puts taxes on the gas that we buy....then they charge us GST (goods and service tax) at the pump. So essentially they are charging us tax on a tax. I don't recall exactly how much it worked out to...maybe 2 cents a litre or less...but if you add it up for all the gas being sold in Canada...it was something like 500 million dollars.

I think the ones to blame are the refineries. All the big companies showed record profits last year. They are making money hand over fist and blaming the government for high taxes. We may be overtaxed but c'mon, taxes don't go up on Friday and then back down on Monday! LoL

I think you guys should do away with the metric system, at least at the fuel pumps!
Change it to the proper US system, that way instead of paying $40 for a bunch of tiny liters, you will instead be paying the same for bigger, better gallons!:D

It will also increase your fuel milage. :D

In Kansas it's $1.58 USD... thank heaven for well-paid boyfriends... ^^;;

Good point Corr,
Don't you just love how they raise the price within the hour that they hear that there might be the possibility of any problem in the vicinity of any area that might produce oil...because their price might go up. They are not so quick to lower the prices if any good oil news comes up.

Yet they are selling the gas in their tanks that they bought at last month's prices.

at the same time though...they can pretty much charge whatever they want. they have a straglehold on us because we are all addicted to driving our cars, and to drive our car we need to buy gas, and if the only place to get gas raises the price to unbelievable amounts, then we will still pay that much. the odd person who cant afford it (ME) will start riding their bikes or whatever. but ill probably get another car during the summer, by which time it will probably be well over $1.00 a liter.

Exactly. It's hilarious really, that gas can leave the refinery at one price, and arrive at the pumps at another.
