Greetings from a newbie! I (we) have had a Suriname Boa for about 6 weeks and are very happy with him. However I am snake novice and perpetual information seeker so this looks a great place for that especially since we (hubbie's idea) are getting a Brazillian Rainbow Boa which I realize will be considerably different and perhaps challenging in several ways.
Thank you 😀 Caly

Welcome Calypso!
I love my rainbow boa. Really the only potentially tricky thing about them is the high humidity requirement. (Their temps are fairly low and easy, at least for me). With an enclosure with only a small amount ventilation though, the humidity can be a cinch to maintain :)

Hi and welcome to the addiction that is reptile keeping, although from the sounds of it you've already been bitten by that bug :)... Good choice for a boa as a first snake they're a great species to keep, and you definitely made a great choice in considering a BRB.
Once you've got the humidity sorted (I find cypress bark and sphagnum moss mixed is a great substrate to use) and don't let temps get too high you'll be fine. My brb doesn't like her hot spot over 28c.

Hi sorry so long I've had trouble accessing this site with my phone. But he's still a little guy, about 28" long. If I can I will post a photo.

Sorry if my replies end up in the wrong place. My smartphone is kinda of stupid when it comes to this site. Humidity for our Rainbow boa was an issue at first. Tried all the tricks but it is so dry where we live we (plus glass tanks don't hold it very well) I had to get inventive. A humidifier and plastic tubing did the trick. We keep an eye on the hygrometer and run it accordingly.
