View Full Version : Breaking the fast

So my ball took a mouse last night. He had refused since early January. He shed this last weekend, for the first time this year. So I'm thinking that his fasting might have something to do with his old layer of skin. He did not have any retained eye caps or any retained skin at all.

I'm trying to think of a good explanation of why he would wait until after shedding to eat. It's not too important...I'm just happy he ate.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

One of my rainbows refuses her food when she is anywhere near a shed (weeks). Often times her belly hasn't even turned pink yet and she ends up missing several meals. I'm not a snake so I don't know what it feels like when you are going through those cycles, but I guess she just doesn't tolerate whatever feeling it gives her very well. Some are just more sensitive than others . With balls though, its the time of eyar for this sort of behaviour. It may not have anything to do with his "old skin" at all, but rather have been a coincidence. My 2cp ;)

I figure the skin isn't as stretchable when the snake isn't about to shed. think about how you feel when you over eat and your tummy is so tight.
