Hey community, picked this big girl up recently and thought it would be nice to start a project with her soon. She is a great specimen of a Puget blue garter. :) Seller says she was a 2009 baby from Scott Felzers collection. Still have her in a quarantine tank now.

Gorgeous! These guys are really nice, if I found a really nice high blue one, I might just have to snatch one up myself...

Thats super cool. I can see my newly started garter collection expanding very quickly with beauries like this floating around there. How big is she?

Jealous! They're one of my favorite garters.. Should've multi quoted this response but thanks Obs for the kind words. No need to be jealous as soon as possible I want to get her to lay a litter and I will have a couple for you. I heard the work to get them to reproduce in captivity is difficult! Fingers crossed on this project. :bouncy:

Thanks Alex! Yes they are a blue phase garter but they also come in a yellow and another color that escapes me at the moment. Thanks em, I watched the vid and that particular Florida blue is the T.S. similis and the blue that I have is the Puget Sound blue T.S. pickeringi.:D

Ah, ok. I couldn't remember the species name from the video. And, I know very little about garters.

Well, they look very much alike but I don't think their ranges criss cross at all. I believe the Florida blue is a east coast species and Puget Sounds are west coast. That video was awesome and thank you for that.

Garters are easy to maintain, but they are garters. Not a mid-size or larger snake that chills out when handled, they're pretty active at best, downright flighty or even pissy at worst. (Though since their teeth are so small it's not like you really notice bites too much.) Pretty to look at, and still easier handling than some other snakes IME.

Brian from Bhb does have a Florida blue garter and I am waiting to hear from him what his plans are for the female he has. I think he only has the female right now but he might be entering or in the middle of a project with her. I have not received confirmation on that yet.
