Hello all, we had a run in with a snake the other day at work. We are located right on the Mason Dixon Border. The snake was right outside our shop door near where some work , so we captured him and released him in the woods behind our building. Im just curious if its a copperhead or some sort of non venemous. All I have is this picture and to someone with untrained eyes I cant tell. For if we see him again and he could be a threat Ill have to find another place to dump him off, or simply release him back again in the woods for he will be harmles..
Thanks!!
Hello Thodrin91. What you have there is a Water Snake (Nerodia sp.), it is nonvenomous. I don't know what you mean by the Mason Dixon Border, and without a location I'm not positive as to the species and subspecies. It looks like a Nerodia erythrogaster or one of its subspecies. A location would narrow it down. Regardless, it is a completely harmless fish and frog eater. If you do need to relocate it again, the nearest permanent body of water will probably be the best place for it. I'll post this on your other thread as well. If you have any more questions or pictures please don't hesitate to post.

The mason Dixon line is the border between MD and PA that was the main line between the north and south during the civil war.
I got you, that would make it a Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon).

Agree, it is definitely a harmless water snake.
