I was hoping someone could identify these for me. We found one by the road at the mailbox and the second in the driveway near the door.

Didn't know if we should call animal control if they're dangerous or just toss 'me down by the creek. They have to be moved. I have a German Shepherd Dog that would have killed them if they didn't kill him!

I'm in southern Ohio if that helps to know what they are.
Pic was with my phone and I didn't get too close. But it was a dark snake with a dark pattern that you could see better when it wound itself around the rack we used to help into into an empty garbage can.

Hello Pennysnake! Sorry it took so long to get a response, first time posts take a while to show up here. The picture you attached is very small but I can guarantee you it is harmless. A long, slender black snake like that with a white chin can only be either a Black Racer or a Black Rat Snake. The subtle, dark pattern you described would make it a Black Rat Snake, Racers have no pattern as adults. Rat Snakes are highly arboreal, if you ever find your German Shepherd barking up a tree there's a good chance hes got a Rat Snake up there.

I agree with fwk. Also neither of these species are venomous, hence they are not a danger for you or your dog.
