View Full Version : Why doesn't my retic ever defecate

I have a mainland that is about a year old. I've had had him for a couple months now, and he has been eating every week. I've noticed that there hardly is any feces in his cage ever. I've fed him a large rat 5 days ago, and he already digested it. I've fed him another large rat last night, but there wasn't any feces from the previous rat. Is this normal? He seems to digest large rats within a few days without defecating. My worst fear is perhaps some internal parasites. He doesn't seem to be getting any thicker, despite eating weekly. I'm new to owning retics, so I don't know if I'm freaking out for nothing or if there is a real problem here.

Probably because it doesn't have to.

But why? He's been eating medium and jumbo rats weekly. He's around 4 feet.
be careful what you ask for......
edit: internal parasite = bloody/mucous/watery stools. they have crazy fast metabolism. maybe it's utilizing most of the prey and excreting very little. or, maybe he's saving it up and will fill your cage with great dane sized poo and then smear it everywhere just be he likes you. :D
retic poo is legendary

Thank god for my little hoggie and MBK poops lol. My BP has some impressive bowl movements for sure...I can't imagine a retic or other 'giants'! Lol

I'm not looking forward to cleaning up retic sh*t, but I'd be happy to know he isn't sick.

They can have several meals without pooping. Some of mine like to save it up and give me fewer, but bigger, presents. What substrate is he on? You just might not be finding them if he's on cypress mulch or similar.

He's on aspen bedding. I'm going to clean out his cage today and start using newspapers as substrate.

I've had my retic for a little over 7 weeks. She's pooped maybe once or twice, but pees like twice a week. -.- So he may be saving it up as others have said.
