Prince my Bci common after shed and hanging out in his favorite spot . BTW just wondered I have been told that you shouldnt allow a bird to have perch above its owners head height for dominance reason . Does that apply to snakes or is his door sitting ok

Snakes are not pack animals so they don't assert dominance in the same way. He is just doing what his kind has done for thousands of years. They know they are safer off the ground, and have a better vantage point the higher they can get.

Thanks he really likes to climb so I was hoping letting him hang out up there would not be an problem . I haven't noticed any stress when getting him down so it didnt seem like it was a causing problem . Hes so funny , he try's to squeeze himself around the vertical door frames and climb . He cant hang on to the painted surface , no matter how hard he try's to squeeze it . He will get hold of it and look back at me like hay I got this . so I will slowly start dropping my hands down and he will slide a little down on the paint back into my hands . He always try's 2/3 times gives up and transfers himself back to me .

He's sooo beautiful! <3 I really want a bci, but they are too big for me (I have some health problems with spine). If you have any other pics of him, please post them! :)

Here are a few pics from when both Prince bci common boa & Jacob human boy son lol were younger about 14 months ago . Prince is two big to be allowed around Jacobs neck now and has been for quite awhile. Last shed measured 6ft 4 inch . Was told Prince was a Prince when purchased , but with his growth rate I wonder if he's really a Princess . Jacobs all boy .

He's gorgeous! Crazy growth rate on these guys, eh? Wish I had the space for one.

Just to let you know, sheds are a terrible inaccurate way to measure snakes. ;) I once got an 8.5' shed from my BCI when he was 4'-4.5', they usually averaged 5'-6'. He's 6'3" now and his sheds average around 8'. Males tend to grow faster than females, but that isn't always the case, and both genders grow rapidly during the second year of their lives. My male was 2.5' at a year, just over 5' at 2, and 6' at 3. He's going to be 4 in a few months, and still growing, albeit very slowly (but still noticeably).

Thanks I realize that the shed length and the snakes length aren't directly related . I'm just amazed at how much he has grown , and how long his sheds are becoming . Can you estimate a guess as to his age in the first pic of the four above . He was purchased at a Petco on deep discount because the three bci commons in the tank had all reached either Petco's size and or time limits to be in the store and they needed to move them for incoming stock . So I truly have no idea as to his real age . I've had him for 14 months and he's roughly 5ft.

Yeah shed length can be deceiving. My hondo's sheds are often 4" longer than the previous one, so looking at them all hanging next to each other it seems like a steady growth rate. But looking at my measurements of the snake after each shed, the actual growth varies quite a lot. There was one time she hadn't even grown an inch, but the shed was 6" longer than the previous! I measure my snakes using the CritterSize app; I just take a picture from above of the snake and a ruler, and then in the app I trace the length of the ruler and of the snake and it calculates the curved distance along the snake based on that. Pretty accurate and much easier than trying to hold a measuring tape against a squirmy snake, especially a very large one! The only hard part sometimes is trying to get the snake to stay still for a picture.

Do you have a full body pic? From the looks of it, he's about 2 years old, or just going into his 2nd year. I usually see more girth growth around this age too instead of just length like they do for the first year or so.
