I am extremely excited to go to Point Pelee National Park and Pelee Island this summer for vacation. I've never been, but have heard it's an incredible place to go herping.
Pelee is located in Ontario and is the southernmost tip of Canada. It is known for its multitude of rare flora and fauna. It is the crossing point of two bird migratory routes, and is home to many reptiles and amphibians.
Some of the native herps in both Point Pelee and Pelee Island include: Blue Racers, Fox Snakes [threatened sp], Melanistic Eastern Garters, Five-Lined Skinks, Chorus Frogs, Spiny Softshell Turtles [threatened sp], Blandings Turtles, Spotted Turtles, Eastern Musk Turtles, Northern Map Turtles, Spotted Turtles, Wood Turtles, Lake Erie Watersnake [endangered sp].
All of these are species I have never seen in the wild.
Does anyone have any advice on finding any of the above listed herps? (habitat, time of day to find it, etc.) I'm hoping to come back with some pictures of these beautiful species, so I'm trying to do as much research as I can before my trip.
