So I got my first snake back in September and I absolutely adore him, I joined this site very shortly after acquiring him and the more time I spend here the more I want ALL the snakes! But I already have a total of 7 pets and work full time. How do all of you resist buying more snakes all the time? Right now I am VERY tempted to get a western hognose.

Resistance is futile.

Space and money are the only things that hold me back. Snake care is easy.

;) I exaggerate a little. Having expensive tastes and not much money helps me keep my collection small. I only have two snakes and a tortoise. My daughter has two snakes of her own. And we have a few invertebrates and fuzzy pets. So, nothing too extravagant.

Having a wife...

Probably a good thing or I might be living in a zoo.

This....exactly this. Even now I could totally afford what I want, but have NOWHERE to put them unless I get rid of some I already have (pointless) or convince my mom to let me put them in the living room (so not gunna happen lol)

I'd like to tell myself that if I get a hognose I will have both ends of the spectrum and then I'd be happy. I'd have a large (large enough for me anyway) nocturnal boa with a tropical type setup and a small diurnal colubrid with a more desert type set up. But then I see a MBK or a cool BP morph or a SD retic and I'm like "OOOOH Pretty snake, must have!"

Haha yeah its just me and my animals here, probably part of the issue.

Space is the main issue here, our house is not very big so we're limited to what we can keep :(

So basically I'm just gonna keep collecting until I run out of space and money?! Haha that could be dangerous. But fun ;)

What's holding me back right now is the goal of putting my current babies into their permanent enclosures before I get any more. I don't want to be spending $1,000's of dollars at once to upgrade everyone.

Only space and money keep me in control. A hognose is super cool and Id love to have one. They are pretty small and easy maintanance.

Right now I like bigsnakegirl am working on upgrading my caging for what I have now. Luckily mine are all relatively small snakes. No big ones for me. Unless I can get hubby to help me get that snake room built in the basement.

Resistance is definitely futile, though I was a good girl and did not bring home a new snake from last months show at White Plains, NY....But I have another show coming up in a week...lol

Luckily (or unluckily???) there haven't been any reptile shows nearby since I got my rainbow in September. If I knew where to find a hognose locally I would probably be there right now. The only thing slowing me down now is that I'm hesitant to buy online.

I can recommend a few Hognose Breeders that have awesome Hoggies and are extremely trustworthy, if you ever want to go the purchasing online route :)

have some tiny humans. They siphon your energy while you sleep like energy hungry vampires.

you'll have no time, money, space, or energy

A few reasons why I decided not to have tiny humans.....in addition to the fact that I'm essentially selfish and I enjoy my freedom too much...plus the fact that I don't think I would make that great of a mom....

I agree with eminart. My two biggest challenges to keeping quite a few more critters are space and loot. :) I also know the limits of what I can care for and enjoy. I really want three more snakes but I promised the Queen of the Manor I'd only get 1 more snake. And a dog. ;)

I've gotten lucky and expanded my small collection with tiny humans. They were/are fascinated that my Cal-King had graduated from Pinkies to Fuzzies to the Hoppers I got in today. Thanks Big Cheese lol.

That said the wife is the biggest clamp. Along with space. I'm done for a little while.

Hmm. My biggest issue as of right now is that the rainbow boas need new enclosures, so before I get anything else I'll be doing some upgrading. Then there's the space and money issue, and I don't want to get over my head and have too many snakes till I'm living on my own. And I also have a tiny human lol.

Money and time. Work is busy and all over the map with no consistent schedule each day. High demand pets just aren't in the cards even if they are cheap and small. And some simple ones just cost to much for everything needed to do it right. And a cat that hates other cats with passion and is scared of dogs lol. She seeem's to not care less about ushu though. In time, slowly things will build, next big item is a backyard pond. Miss the waterfall noise.

Hello. I have question

And thank for answer. :)

I don't.... I told myself one snake when I started again and the only reason was that he was pretty and unique and a good price....so tell me why I bought a normal BP? Because somebody simply sent me a picture and I went to get him 30 min later.

The fact that we have a new baby in the house helps somewhat. I do not recommend getting on craigslist because it just makes it seem so inexpensive and easy and wonderful. Good luck...if you successfully resist buying another before 3 months have passed then you have more self control than most.
