Florida Gopher Tortoise

I just wanted to share photos of the gopher tortoise I came across this morning. He was munching out on a small plant. This was a big guy, probably almost a foot long:

Yes, Jim, they are not very common. I have been here for 25 years and this is the first one I have seen.

Terrific looking animal! I really like tortoises and box turtles. I see a few boxes when I visit family in Virginia.
