Hi all.
I joined this forum because i'm thinking of getting a snake. I am not really "new" to snakes only as in when I was a kid I use to catch them all the time lol.
Always caught them but always let them go after I looked at them. I'm new in the aspect of wanting to keep one as a pet and keep it healthy. I have been researching them on line and I plan on learning as much as I can on here before I actually go out and get one :) I am a firm believer in keeping my pets happy and healthy. I'm still in the planning stages of what kind to get. I am going to be buying Exo Terra® Reptile Terrarium 36"L x 18"W x 18"H and then see what I can keep in it comfortably.
Thanks
Andrea

Since you never owned a snake before I reccomend getting a ball python to start you off. They don't get that big, only about 4 feet when fully grown (perfect for the size tank you want to get). They're pretty docile, too. You can handle them all the time without issue. They are picky eaters, however. Your best bet would be to get one from a breeder. 'Normal' ball pythons go for about 50 bucks, maybe just a little more. The morphs are the expensive ones, but unless you're a breeder there is really no need to get one of those. Ball pythons from pet stores are usually infested with mites, and have all sorts of health problems. I suggest maybe checking on craigslist for good breeders. Don't let them fool you though. There are a lot of scam artists on there looking to make a quick buck off selling you a sick snake. Ask them questions first. Or check out some websites that will ship the snake to you. Be careful with them, too. You'd be surprised how many con artists there are. Wherever you decide to get the snake from, just ask them important questions. If they cannot answer your questions, then they probably didn't properly care for the snake. Good luck.

Hello Andrea, welcome to the forum we are glad to have you. The most important part of reptile keeping is your husbandry and how well prepared you are to handle your pets needs. It's a very rewarding hobby in that all reptiles have their own individual personalities and it's nice to appreciate that. So many people are just ignorant of the benefits that reptiles provide.
