Ok so I was given a rack with an incubator I bought off of a friend. The heat cable in it is shot and its run along the back. I'm mainly trying to decide if I want to just rerun the cable in the back or run belly heat with flexwatt heat tape. I have flexwatt back heat on my other rack and it's really annoying to deal with, but I've never used cable so I don't know how well it heats. So should I rerun the cable or swap to flexwatt belly heat? Which is better/more practical?

Heat tape all the way. I've never been a fan of cable. A friend swears by it but it seems to be a remarkable pain and she's always replacing bits or rerunning it.

Yes, I say go with the heat tape. Belly heat to me is a more natural and effective way to keep your animals warm. I do use back heat but it's for my garters and it's heat tape not heat cable. I can't speak on the benefits or disadvantages of heat cable however bc I've never used it.

heat tape is very easy to use and works well for me, I cannot imagine the desire to use something else unless thick material or basking species need to be addressed. For tubs, heat tape is king.

Sorry to bring this thread back, but I have another question concerning this same rack. It's made to fit rubbermaid 2220 and 2221 tubs (if I can find them anywhere; if any body knows where to get some/ has extras please let me know). How would I run the heat tape to provide a good heat gradient in both tub sizes? One sits longways in the rack and the smaller ones sit with the short side facing out, so I'm not sure how to run the tape to have the best heat gradient.

Because those tubs were discontinued, I bet finding them will be next to impossible. I would keep looking but I would also assume that people with racks that use those tubs went and clean off the shelves as soon as they got word.
