View Full Version : Help with possible health issues??
So I have a beautiful 3 year old paradigm boa. I've never held a snake like her though. When I pick her up she twitches pretty intensely. Almost like she seizes out for a split second as if I'm not supporting her good enough or something. She also has a cracking/popping noise that's happens almost every time I hold her. It's very strange and I haven't experienced anything like it so I was wondering if that's a normal thing or if she may need to go to a vet?? Also she completely soaked half of her 4 ft cage with urine. Hasn't done that before, is that just a well hydrated snake? Is it not always a thick urate? Any input would be very appreciated!

Soad, a cracking/popping noise can indicate a respiratory infection, so make sue to check for other signs. Does she twitch at any other time than when held? A large urine dump is not unusual, especially if a snake is marking a new enclosure.
I've only seen her twitch when she is held and it's only when I first take her out. She's a nervous snake as it is too. After about a minute of being held shes calmed down. Can anything other than humidity cause such an infection?

Absolutely. Exposure, either direct (contact) or indirect (shared tools) to another sick snake can spread it. Poor sanitation or too-low calorie intake can also weaken an animal to the point where already present microbes can cause an active infection. Any of these could have happened before you got her, which is why it's always good to quarantine a new arrival.
