Slider front enclosures

Many people wanted to know how I did my enclosure set-up....I get aquariums turn them on their side(for more surface area for snakes) and get u-molding(plastic) from Home-depot,real cheap,$2 for 10ft and silicon the strips into the recessed lids of the aquariums...Then I cut plexiglass sliders for the front, with ventalation holes I drilled in (use a glass drill bit or it will crack all over the place..belive me I went through lots of plexi before I found this out) ...this enclosure set-up is cheap because you can pick up aquariums cheap and can be heated with tape or human heat pads(bought from Value Village or Sal Army for $2) no lights required ..but some lighting for heat to tweek the heat levels.depends.........enjoy

Very good idea.

Do you use anything for a substrate dam? I might want to silicone in a 2" piece pf plexi just inside the lip of the tank so the substrate stays inside and out of the track.

I use paper towel or newspaper...for17 enclosures ..it is expensive/time consuming for using wood or other substrate..but I have siliconed a piece of plexi 1 inch along the bottom if I have too...

I'm thyinking of trying this...how much shorter than the opening do you cut the plexiglass? Or how taller is the plexi than the distance between the egde of the track?

what do you do for the stuff that needs heat lamps....do you put the heat lamp inside? ive thaught of doing this before but cant think what to do about heat...other than heat pads.

The Reps that I have that require more heat or a basking spot I have a heat light that is directed near the tank. This is a bit tricky because you can't have the light fixture too close to the glass or CCCrack goes the tank. I keep the light source 8 inches away from the back or side of the tank. You would be amazed how much heat the glass absorbs....this light should also give the Rep the absorption nutrients, I would guess.

Plexi-glass is easy too cut..with a exacto knife(razor blade) so it is just a matter of measuring the plexi...usually it depends on the size of the plastic molding runners...Mine is cut 1/8 smaller because if it is smaller than the top runner side then the plexi will fall out...or pushed out
