I've never had a bad cough from melting holes in tubs before but I did a bunch of tubs a few days ago including some heavy duty ziplock plastic 60 quart boxes and have had a cough ever since. I am thinking the plastic in the ziplock boxes might be bad for you when it's burnt, if I do anymore of those I'll probably do them outside. Could be a coincidence, too, but just I just thought I'd throw out an fyi.

When you're melting any plastics, you should always do it in an open air space, not in a room ... Regarding your cough though, you should be fine as long as you aren't coughing up blood or feeling out of the norm. In which case you should call your doctor right away.

Raising the temp. of any plastic materials to the point of melting/ burning will more than likely cause off gassing of harmful chemicals . For specifics on the material/materials you are working with access that materials material date safety sheet most are on line . But in the meantime I suggest only a well ventilated area and the use of both a face mask and safety glasses. Research the data sheets for any life threatening out comes from inhaling the fumes , and follow the medical advice recommended . My guess you were on the edge of coughing problem and the chemicals u inhaled put you over the edge .
