How fast do MBKs go? Been considering one as that jet black is just cool every time I see one. Looking for it to occupy my empty 24x24x12 pvc cage. Not in the position to buy a new larger cage at this moment. If I were to buy a juvie how long would it take him to outgrow this cage?

I wouldn't say they grow all that fast tb. I think your enclosure would be acceptable for a yearling. My kings are both 2 yrs old and they're about 3.5 ft. I can't imagine them in anything smaller than a 40g tank and preferably a 4x2.

I would end up buying a 4x2 at a later date. I considered moving my BP back from my 4x2 but decided he will stay in it. Feel he should have the space when he is full grown. the 2x2 is only a short term solution for the king. I prefer to buy young snakes so I can watch them grow up. If it takes them almost 2yrs to outgrow it then that's fine. I've read how voracious an eater they are so wasn't sure if they grew at high speed to match.

I prefer to buy younger snakes too :). Kings are pretty hearty eaters but mine will take food breaks during the colder months and during breeding season. I think the 2x2x1 should be fine for about 18 months. I'm going to order a 4x2 for my albino bull later this month.

My girl has doubled her weight in 3 months. When I got her she was about 21g and when I weighed her the other day before feeding she was 40. However, she is fed twice a week so if you fed just once a week yours would grow slower.

I intend to feed once per week as I do with my BP. He hasn't refused a meal since I bought him in Dec. With the exception of weeks I skipped because he was in shed he ate 2 days after coming home and every time since. Generally always has his head out of his hide before I can put the food in.

I got my King in January at just under 17", he's now pushing 27" if that tells anything. Unfortunately I don't weigh my snakes yet so I can't give weight difference, but his length is almost 10"+ and his girth is at least doubled.

Wow that's some serious growth. Sounds like within a year a young juvie will be reaching the limits of what I'd like in the 2x2.

I don't measure my reptiles, just weigh. And at 40g, my lady is still in a 10 gal. I will most likely be getting her a 40 gal front opening exoterra or zoo med next year though, and have a 20 gal long if she out grows her 10 gal by then.

My 90g MBK is still in a 20 long with some growth yet to go before I think about moving him. His age is anyone's guess though!

My mbk is a little over 2 years old and about 3 1/2 ft and I just moved her into a 40 gallon tank, she just seemed so cramped for how active she was in that 20 gallon. The solid black color is captivating every time I see her out and about.

Best of luck on your quest to get one. They're so brilliant looking, especially right after a shed.
