So I was feeding my corn tonight and noticed that the biggest part of her body is slightly bigger then the fuzzy mouse! Where did that come from? My baby is growing up!! Lol

Anyway just wanted some oppions on if I should go to the next size of mouse or not, I attached a pic that might help

Very nice looking Corn Luthien. That looks like a decent sized meal but she could probably handle larger prey. You could also feed more than one prey item of the current smaller size. How much does your snake weigh and how much does the mouse weigh? I typically feed my young snakes 10-15% of their body weight per feeding.

Ok if it's 10-15% of body weight we're doing good then lol I just read that the mouse should be slightly bigger then the largest part of the snake's body and these fuzzies look slightly smaller, I don't want to feed to big though so figured I would ask people that know!

Thanks by the way! I love her coloring and she gets brighter with every shed

You'll be surprised at the size of prey they can consume. I was often nervous, and always impressed, when bumping up prey sizes. Going from pinkys to fuzzys to hoppers, and now from small rats to mediium ones, it still amazes me.

+1 for that ^

Also don't forget that most of the time they are going to spit it out before they harm themselves.

Looking good BTW.

Right and along with the 15-20% rule. The prey item should not be larger than 1-1.5 x the widest part of the reptile. There is of course a safe leeway to these numbers. Peace.

I usually see 10-15%? 20 seems like a fairly large meal.

I think its 15- 20% but a 5% leeway is reasonable.

Tomato/ tomatoe :). I use the 10-15% guideline most often too but will feed my younger snakes up to 20% of their body weight sometime.

Thanks guys! She is doing really well and going into her forever home very soon (aka the big viv). I think I'll stick with Fuzzies for the next little while and then boost her up to Hoppers. I just bought 2 months worth of Fuzzies so I'll use those and go from there.
