Hey guys, anyone know of trustworthy vets in the finger lakes region or just in New York in general that have experience with monitors? I want to figure out everything before I ask my dad to spend what will probably be a massive amount of money on taking my rudi to the vet. I want him to get blood work done, a fecal test, and to get his mouth checked out for mouth rot. What is your guys' experience with monitor vet visits? I cant imagine how hard it will be to wrestle an angry lizard to force his mouth open for a swab :( How does this stuff work really?

I just need help, I need to have everything figured out to be able to convince dad to spend any money, and even then it prolly wouldn't happen for months at least (if it happens).

I don't know of any in your area, but when I needed to take my snakes to the vet I did an online search and looked in the phone book. I found a vet clinic with an exotics specialist. Then I called the clinic and asked about their experience with reptiles. You could even ask the receptionist to ask the vet about how comfortable they feel about seeing reptiles. Vets are usually pretty honest in my experience. I also looked at how well the clinic was rated. Then when you take your reptile to the vet pay attention to how well they know basic care in a general exam. They should ask questions about your setup. If they don't, red flag, get outta there! I was lucky and got a great vet, but damn he's always busy!
