View Full Version : BRB custom display cage (re)build!
We got these two homemade 4x2x2 cages in a trade we were very happy with, even though they were quite rough and have needed a number of weekends worth of work and a good bit of money sunk into them. They are finally nearly finished though! My husband has done almost all of the work on them and has done a great job. We replaced the plexi glass in the doors with Lexan, sanded, repainted, caulked and just today put on the bottom liner. Still have to finish rehanging the doors, installing the Radiant Heat panels we've decided on, the LED light bars we've found and hanging the neat drift wood that came with the one cage in a way that it can be removed for cleaning. Plus we want to find something similar that we can do in the other cage. Figuring they are going to need at least a month or more to off gas as well before we can move Kaylee and Zoe into them.
This is the original before any restoration work.

Looking forward to the progress on your build Charis.
Did a little more work on the cages this weekend.
We installed some small hooks in the back roof, to hang foliage from or whatever.

And hung the drift wood back up in the one cage.

What exactly is the product you use as the liner
It's a truck bed liner, the brand name for this was herculiner. Not sure if they sell that brand in Canada but you probably have something similar. You will definitely want some kind of mask while applying it though! My husband was very happy to have a respirator while working with it! It's also going to need 1 or 2 months to off gas before putting a critter in there for sure.
My husband got the lights installed today, they are quite neat. They have 18 different shades of colors and 4 settings. Two of the settings, like strobe, are migraine inducing and will never be used but the others are wonderful! The pictures don't really do them justice, hard to take a good picture. This first one will probably be the default setting, it is a nice soothing warm yellow.

That is really a professional job! Congrats. Be careful with those wooden logs bc they can be a attractant for mites. Consider pre- treating with pam for safety and protection. Peace. :suspicious:

Well done! I have a 4x2 that I made a few years ago and this is making me want to give 'er a little TLC.

Turned out very well. This is a great example of wht I love the LED light strips. I'm the same and leave them on the white setting also.
What did you use to attach the light strips? In my expierence the sticky backing that comes on them dosent work too well and I tend to use hot glue to attach mine.

Wouldn't be a problem unless there were mites already present in the house/room though right?

Does the bed liner leave a rough texture like typical truckbed liners? Or is it a smooth finish?

I just got some Satellite+ LED lighting systems from Current for the frogs and geckos. Expensive, but definitely worth it.
The liner leaves a rough texture.
This is sloooooowly coming together! Just got the heat panels here, installed and the doors put back on with new hardware and locks last week. Now just need to build a stand for them and they will be ready to move snakes into!

That looks great! What type of paint did you use for the interior? I heard latex is fine as long as it outgasses for a few weeks.
