View Full Version : Elephant trunk snake?
Today I had the pleasure of seeing an elephant trunk snake for the first time. Very weird critters, when they were briefly pulled out of the water they looked like they were deflating. They look as though they require advanced upkeep. I'm not interested in keeping one but they were selling for $75 each. I wonder what the purchasers were getting themselves into?

They're fully aquatic, not too much different than maintaining a regular aquarium full of fish except the waste. From what I read they eat daily, so it would be a lot of work to keep their water clean. Then again, probably no worse than some of the monster aquarium fish I've seen. Temperature requirement is higher than fish too, so heating their tank would require an oversize heater. Cool critters but more trouble than I want to work with.

Very easily stressed and, as a result, susceptible to disease. There's a certain variety of white fungus that kills most of them in captivity.

They are some CB ones I've seen for sale recently, not sure if it was an importer with CH or legitimate breeder whose kept and bred them but I would try to hunt those guys down if really interested.
