Finally, Living Gems is reaching the scale where we can pick and choose our breeder animals for the next year. We will have ten females large enough to breed this season, from which we will choose eight.
Our sixth pairing this year puts together Prometheus and Malachite in pursuit of a high red litter. It is a new pairing, but with a proven female.
Prometheus
Prometheus, a stunning high-red male born in September 2009 who is one of the most personable males we own…

…has had two unsuccessful dates with a larger virgin female who did not fancy his advances (in fact, the amount of pushed-around furniture led me to double check both snakes’ genders).
So, this year, we are pairing him with an older, “more experienced,” woman to help him get it right:

Malachite is a proven reddish female born in July 2008. Her last litter, in 2013, was the largest in our history, so hopefully she will come through again with a generous load of little slimers to choose from. As of her last weigh-in, she tipped the scales at a generous 2482 grams.

Thank you, as always, for reading.
