I'm always scouting CL for good deals on alot of different things and came across this ad. Now, I LOVE boas but can't afford much space. When I asked the owner for adult sizes I was informed 3-5 feet. I really want to jump on this but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. Also, not looking to breed them.

Looking for experienced opinions please.

Dwarf Boas are real. I believe they get to be around four to five feet full grown.

I'm no expert, but most of the dwarf species I've read about are from very specific lines, not a Colombian anything. If you feed them smaller items less frequently you can limit their growth and adult size to about what the seller is saying, but if that one in hand in the pic is definitely larger than 8". My baby water snake was 10" when I brought it home, and that boa is certainly larger all around. Looks like a fairly new baby, and our 2 '14 BCI's are eating those.
If you want a 3-5' snake check into a Children's python or a related species. I recently was some anthill pythons available online, they're the smallest python in the world.

honestly if they were dwarf I would imagine they'd be smaller than another boa of the same age. however I have a 1 year boa and she's almost exactly that size. I would be careful, you could be getting a regular boa that'll grow to 6-10 feet depending on sex, it'll take some time to get the that size though, so you may find that you're ready by then. Either way, make sure it's something you're willing to risk.

That's what I was thinking. Also, I like the red tailed boas. Not so much on the smaller pythons. Not going to get a snake just to get it, but if they were true dwarfs of what I all ready love, 300 wouldn't be a bad deal. However, if I'm looking at a snake that gets more than 5 feet, I'm getting a living gems BRB. This add just sounded too good to be true, and well...I still think it is.

Also, when I was talking texting the people they seemed to assume I knew NOTHING about snakes and also that I would definitely purchase them when I told them several times I had to talk to my roommate first, then proceeded to tell me that I'd be stupid not to buy both and breed them after I told them I had no interest in breeding and might just want the male.

Either way...between me not being 100% on their dwarfness and the people being forceful and sketchy, I think I'll pass and just stick to my plan of waiting till repticon.

1. Dwarf boas don't have albino or sunglow in them naturally so they'd be crosses with the columbian.

2. This person wasn't entirely wrong. Really small snakes for about a year old and most likely mixed locale. Even if the female was true 'dwarf' she's still undersized. I have some and they are far larger and not even close to a year yet.

Regardless, the guy had other redflags all over the place such as pressuring me to buy them, assuming I was getting them for sure, then telling me someone else was looking to get them on sunday and when I said that's fine since I couldn't meet till tuesday he back tracked and asked 'if' he still had them after sunday if I wanted them. I told him not really since I just wanted one and he had previously told me how stupid I'd be not to get both and breed them (even after I insisted I didn't want to breed). He then came back with a price of 200 for just the male even though the female was 180 alone and together with all supplies they were 300. Not to mention that during our texting he was treating me like a total know nothing and also trying to push getting a retic from him even after I informed him I knew the proper care and wasn't interested in a retic for multiple reasons and it was like he just didn't care and wants to shove these 'oh so rare' snakes on me. =/

Uhg....people like him is why I tend to steer away from local breeders x.x

Sounds like a good call to pass. Hope to hear a better report from Repticon!

Thanks! I'm still on the fence if I want to get a hognose or not. Pretty set on either a hoggie or nothing since if I get nothing I'll get one of your gems instead lol.

That little male I liked isn't still available is he? Lol

Another thing I thought was very questionable was the claim to all the hets they supposedly carry. From the pics they look like a couple of random baby BCI's. Seems to me he'd be listing them somewhere besides Craiglist if they were such great breeding stock. At the very least I'd want documentation of their lineage. From your description his salesmanship sounds similar to the guy who wanted to sell a 5 gallon tank for $500. He claimed he paid $700 for it at a yard sale, no less. Ooookay...

I lol'd.

I'd stay far away from that one of you want an actual dwarf. It's a nice looking boa but not a dwarf, at least not pure anyway. If you want a true dwarf look into Vin Russo. There are others too obviously but he seems to have a very large variety.

Both are good choices. Per other thread, I will check for you.

This isn't entirely true, T+ albino and Hypo occurs on pure Nicaraguan dwarf boa's, combined this would make t+ Sunglow. I am planning to breed pure Nicaraguan t+ Sunglows myself. (Well, Hypo Het t+ first)
