This applies to lizards, turtles, and snakes. c:

I would think turtles. As they are "cute and innocent" when it comes to concerned and worried moms and wives. My wife hates snakes, but thinks turtles are the cutest thing ever. So I have turtles too. lol

I think more people have lizards than snakes or turtles. There's such a broad range of lizards too.

I'd like to agree with Ziggy. And the most common lizards would be beardies, cresties, and leos. They are relatively inexpensive, come in different morphs, and easily atained at pet stores, shows, online, and local ads since so many people also like to breed them.

What other species of turtles or snakes then?

Turtles - Red Eared Sliders
Lizards - Cresties, Gargoyles, Leos and Beardies
Snakes - Ball Pythons, Corn Snakes, Boas and Kingsnakes/Milksnakes

Just my opinion on the most popular from each category

Around here it definetly is.

Turtles: Trachemys scripta elegans (And since they became illegal to breed:Trachemys scripta troosti)
Lizards: Bearded dragons by far.
Snakes: Cornsnake/Ballpython mostly, otherwise boa's.

I'm sure more people keep turtles than snakes/lizards, and more people keep lizards than snakes (Bearded dragons are VERY popular here)

We have had our three toed box turtle since she was a baby (about 5 years). She has really outgrown our expectations. We've handled her regularly from the start and so she rarely goes in her shell. Most of the day she is free to roam around our place and if she wants to hang out somewhere she has her favorite spots. She has a personality and can tell us (to some extent - mostly by staring at something - what she wants). We love her to death. I joined this forum because we would like to add another family member... a snake. Everyone here is very nice and the information is awesome! They have been a BIG help to my research. :)

In my area I have noticed the following.

Turtles: Red eared sliders
Tortoises: Russian torts
Lizards: Leos, Beardies
Snakes: Ball pythons, boas (so many boas!), milk/kingsnakes, corns

We also have quite a few tarantulas I always see stocked in pet stores.
