I have just gotten a Baby Female Green Anaconda. She is about 8 months old and is about 3'. She is a great eater I had just put her in her new cage and 2 hours later she ate a mouse. Ive always wanted to get an Anaconda and now I finally have. I will be posting a picture of here soon. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how important it is to keep the cage humid because ive heard it both ways, dry, humid. I currently have the cage about 82 Degrees. Also at that size 3' should I start feeding it small rats? Thanks for the help ahead of time everyone.

im almost positive you should have a large pool for it to soak/swim in, and the humidity should be high, not dry(lol that rhymes). Also, if you have a fat GA then you shoulod be able to feed him a small rat, cause my 3ft burm can take them down.

Great to hear that you got yourself a meanie greenie. At that size it can take rats. You should start off on rats as soon as you can as it can be difficult to switch them over and you do not want an 8 foot snake looking for mice to eat. The humidity does not have to be extremely high. Anacondas go through a very dry season during the year and are equiped to deal with it. Mine is usually kept around 65-70% with an increase at shed time. And like snakemann87 said it is good to have a pool of water for it to bath in. It will spend the majority of it's time in their and will limit stress. I hope all goes well for you!

I kept my Yellows at about 85-88 degree hot spot and about 75 cool side. Generally kept the humidy at about 70% or so. Never had a problem with shedding since they LOVE to soak in the water. At 3 feet, he should definately be eating rats, start with small, but he will probably be up to medium soon, and Roosters before you know it!

Just curiouse, what are you going to keep it in when it is full grown? Also do you have a good line on rabbits, then pigs?
I've always thought about a burm/retic but I just can't seem to figure out how I'm going to house and feed a 20'+ snake. The other problem I can't seem to figure out is how to provide the humidity that a Green Anaconda needs. That and their attitude has them off my list permanently.
Cheers,
Trevor

I have already taken into consideration her food, housing, and well being when she gets very large. In a few years when she does get that large she will have her own room to live in. She will have a constant supply of large food to feed her. Right now I am keeping her humidity right by using a fogger that I just recieved. It works really well. As far as her temper goes she is actually really not vicious. The only time that she has bitten me was when I first got her and was probing her. I can understand why she would be mad. She is also a really good eater. I just moved her to rats and she loves those as much as mice. So for now I have no complaints and she is a really good pet.

For some reason I am unable to insert a picture even though the file size of the picture is only 66 KB otherwise I would post a couple pictures of Zena my Green Anaconda. Anyone tell me why this is even though im suppose to be able to post a 25000 byte picture? I have cleaned out my IE Cache and all.

Here is a pic of her. The lighting is bad in it so she is actually a lighter color than it shows.
