I went out to check the breeders this morning and fund 2 females laying. The Hybino Fla x Eastern had around 15 eggs and was still laying. The F2 NC corn was just starting.

Very cool pairings. Ive always been curious to the process of breeding kings being canabalistic. what steps do you takn to ensure theyre just going to do the deed and not fight?

Thanks. I "cool" my breeders over the winter and in the Spring I warm them back up. I make sure they are both well fed, and I introduce the male to the females enclosure. I monitor them for the first few minutes. If she doesn't try to eat him I leave them alone. I let them stay together for 3 to 5 days, split to feed, then put them back together. I repeat this cycle for around 5 to 6 weeks or until I feel the female is gravid.

Thats what I've read on how to do it ive just not had the nerve to pair any kings. So if theyre going to be inclined to fight it would happen within the first few min of being paired? Have you ever had them attack each other? I imagine seperating the fight cant be easy.

Yes, it has happened. It can be a little difficult to split them up, usually she will bite around the head area and wrap him up like a meal. That is what she is trying to do, not really a fight, she is trying to kill and eat him. I have found that if its going to happen, its usually within the first few seconds after realizing there is company. I am sure there are exceptions
