View Full Version : Night Drops for Temps
What are y'alls thoughts on night drops on temps? Been reading generically people don't let their enclosure drop to 75ish at night. I will be using a reptitherm most likely with the new setup and the only way I could do a night drop is put it on a timer. Which is easy. Night drops makes sense for a sun cycle for an Arboreal. Not sure though.

i use light emitting basking bulbs, thermostats, and bulb guards...
in the spring, summer, autumn(fall),my Carpets get no night time heat
in the winter i add heat mats into my vivariums,i set the mats at 50F for my Diamond Pythons, the rest of the Carpets get heat mats set at 60F
Diamonds handle the cold just fine,i only give them 2 hours basking light,2 hours 2.0 natural sunlight UVB, per day during their cooling cycle
i change basking and UVB times according to season
it's only Carpet pythons i keep and they handle the night time lows without issues...
what species do you keep mate ?

My snake room in the coldest part of winter may drop to 70 degrees at night. I keep all species of snakes and have never had any issues with them.

This is for my Biak GTP. Question is do y'all run your heat source 24/7 or do you have your heat on a cycle that shuts off at night, like a light cycle.
I said reptitherm in my OP, but mean hydrofarm stat.

I keep my ambient temps less warm at night, but keep a heat source in case the snakes want to warm up

i was dropping the temps for awhile using my hygrotherm but my brb didn't seem to benefit from that so when the power went out and it needed reset I never programmed it to drop again. I also use the hydrofarm thermostat for my gtp, which is cheap and effective, I love it, and was manually dropping the temps at night but I don't do that anymore either. I may reprogram the hygrotherm to drop at night but only if I come across any proven evidence that it helps.

I keep a constant hot spot in all of my cages and have a space heater set up on a timer. That being said I don't breed often so seasonal temp changes don't matter to me.
