rosy boa questions

Hey all

I have an empty PVC cage my BP just vacated and we can't have an empty setup right ;) so I upgraded the controls and added an pro products rhp (his new cage has the same upgrades). Almost decided on a childrens python until I decided to ask what else would fit in a 24x24x12 cage. A member suggested rosy boa and so far it seems like a better choice but reading various care sheets I'm noticing a few holes and inconsistencies in the information.

1 Do you provide water at all times?
2 What is the desired humidity range? I have read they like it dry but they never give specific numbers. Being winter in Canada high humidity right now isn't a concern but come summer it might be.
3 What substrate is good and which is not? Leaning towards aspen.
4 Would a rosy use wood branches for climbing?

Any help to get these cleared up for owners. I can setup the stats and get the heat dialed in. No substrate in the cage at the moment.

Yes. It won't kill them. Really only an issue with very high humidity or them spilling water during brumation. I give them 24/7 access. My albino rosy likes to bathe herself.

30-60% humidity
Think Mediterranean climate. Up the humidy when in blue.

Aspen is just fine. They like to burrow in it.

4 Would a rosy use wood branches for climbing?
Maybe when they are cruising around. They will get on everything when they are hungry. :D

Rosy Boas are easy and not picky. They are not super sensitive creatures to care for. Sometimes picky eaters though.

That would be an easy range for me to maintain then. I switched my bp from aspen to coco husk because it kept dropping to 35%. So as along as i buy a stable water dish I'm fine. I buy more esthetically pleasing natural looking decor.

Have you kept rosy on coco husk? Better or worse for burrowing?

I use coco husk for ALL of my snakes, even low humidity snakes. They hold burrows great so your rosy will love it. Just make sure it doesn't get too wet because it will hold that water FOREVER and raise the humidity. As long as you have good ventalation you wont have any issues with humidity.

I have to spray my BPs cage to maintain humidity for him the issues of winter in a basement. I check my BP cage daily checking the temps and humidity reading and spray as needed. But I'll be sure to prep the coco husk for the boa to avoid high humidity before a substrate change..
