Chinese Water Dragon Problem

I have a Chinese Water dragon and I have had him for like 10 months now he was a rescue and in Bad shape when I got him. Finally got him eating and fattened up he shed 2 or 3 times and gre 3 or 4 inches very quickly. Then he went bad down hill he won't eat he has in 12 super worm in the last 2 week and all of those he ate at once.

I used to just toss food in and it was gone and he would eat right outta my hand. I have tried everything and he is not interested.

This has been going on since late november. Before that he ate almost every day.

Any Ideas ?? Should I be considering force feeding him and if so any Ideas on what is best to use to force feed him ??


I know he is drinking. I see him drink and swim.

If he hasn't been eating Properly since November, then I think its time for a vet trip.

Have you ever taken him to the vet? Most dragons are wild-caught or farm-hatched, so the majority of them have parasites.
This could be why he is not eating.

Heathy waterdragons are pigs. They will eat even when they have no more room left and look like they will pop. So when a WD is not eating, there is a major problem there.

DO NOT forcefeed. You don't know the problem, so you can't possibly know the cure. For all you know he could have a severe impaction or "he" could be a "she" and could be gravid. (Gravid females often refuse food for months, and often have egg impaction problems which can kill them.)

A vet trip is your priority now. Good luck.

try feeding him different sorts of of like a veggy mix with fruit or so if that don't work try to find a vet and get him checked out!

Well... I forget how much it costs, but not too much, and definitely not too much to help a lizard :) I remember thinking it was reasonable...

I mean a feces examination... You just take the lizard to the vet, or someimes just some feces, and have the vet look "through the poo", and they then can tell if it has parasites, anything else, etc... Jsut look in the yellow pages under "Vet" and phone them, ask them if they look after exotic animals, such as lizards, even if they don't, they can usually reccomend a good vet... There should be enough vets to find a few good exotic vets, and jsut give em a call, and ask em about a fecial examination...

THe money is not a problem I am totally willing to pay if I can find a descent vet in this town. I am in Saint John NB

He was checked for parasites when I first got him and was clean he had actually been checked twice as the guy who actually rescued him was being very careful not to contaminate his collection.

He is the only herp I have right now (I got him then I got engaged and I plan on moving soon so I am holding off on anything else) so I don't know how if he was clean then he could have gotten any parasites.

Well, if that is fine, check the temps/humidity, and if they are what they are supposed to be, try raising or lowering them a TINY bit. Thats about all I can think of...
