So it was time for the baby's first meal (still deciding on a name…thinking Akiro?) and this is probably when I get the most nervous with any snake. Some part of me always tells me that my snake isn't going to eat but he happily gulped it down! It took him a second to take it…and my heart dropped, but then he grabbed it. So he constricted it for a few moments and then while still holding it with his lower body, started searching around the tub. He did this for a minute or two which made my heart sink again  But then he finally started eating!! He seemed like a very happy baby boy
Anyone have any name suggestions?

Also I know no snakes are the same, but how fast do carpets grow? or just how fast did ones that you guys own grow? I swear he grew a a few centimeters from last week :D

Nice baby you have there! Akiro seems like a good name for him :)

I dunno for a name, maybe Ziggy? Carpets grow amazingly quickly, possibly due to the relatively large meals they insist on.
Happy to hear yours ate so willingly, mine refused f/t for several weeks after I brought him/her home. Finally had to drive 3 hours round trip to get a couple live mice (fuzzy and hopper) then the finicky little stinker killed the fuzzy and abandoned it after a couple minutes. A few minutes after that I put the hopper in, it was taken as eagerly as the fuzzy was, and then actually eaten. Huge relief to me after weeks of not eating...
Since then live or f/t are taken with equal gusto.

3 hours round trip? Yikes! So happy he ate for you after that trek :) Has he been eating good for you ever since?

Ya, happily takes anything I offer now, live or f/t. I've been mostly feeding live hoppers and one weaned since I have them on hand now. I really think the fuzzy was too small, though the live prey stimulated a reaction that the f/t didn't.
Only 2 sheds from the carpet python so far, and the size difference is much greater than the Dominicans or the corn snake after 2 sheds.

Mine grew extremely fast also, I think he was about 22 inches when I got him and he's now about 40 inches 5-6 months later. Still very slender though, Im hoping he starts to fill out soon. Im glad yours ate though, I hate the stress caused when my guys refuse food lol
