Rosy waking up, but still not eating.....

Hello again. I so apprecaited your help, when my rosy went into self impossed brumation. However, i have noticed Him up, and moving and now He is on the warm side of His aquarium again. He woke up about Tuesday (2/11/03). I noticed Him moving around, exploring again, so i took Him out yesterday and tried to feed Him once more.

NO LUCK. I warmed the mouse and even left the little mouse in His feeding box overnight with Him to see if He would eat it.....He did not. Now, He still looks plump, He's not bubbling at the nose, nor is He having any mites that i can see.

What should i do next?????

I would hugly appreciate any tips as i've never had a snake come out of brumation before.

Gradually increase the temps of his enclosure back to normal. Offer a small meal to start and work up to normal sized meals. Hope this helps.

Did you actually brumate him (at 55-65 degrees) or has he just been less active and not feeding?

No, i didn't actually brumate Him. He just went through about 6 weeks of not really moving and not eating.

I do not have the capablitlites of warming Him up slowly. I have under His cage a pad that only has one temp. I plugged it back in after about 4 weeks and noticed Him last week on the warm side again and moving around activily. I tried to feed Him, but to no avial.

I hope the information helps, i love my baby so much, i really don't want to see Him ill *pout*

Why Jose wasn't eating it wasn't until he shed that he started eating again and he went 5 months! You male may have it in his internal clock that he needs to brumate, a period which should last 10-12 weeks. You may find that he wont eat again until you do brumate. However, I would be cautious with that idea because snakes should be well fed and have thoroughly moved their bowels before brumation. Get a scale, keep track of his weight. What is your setup like? What is the temp of the cage on the warm side and the cool side? What is the humidity at? Do you have the setup so that he has a photoperiod? (day night cycle) Does he have a nice dark hide on each side of the enclosure?

If in fact it is a male, which I assuming it is, then he probably won't eat for another couple of months. All my males have come out of their winter nap and none of the males are eating. This is usual behavior for rosy boas. Like posted above, just watch his weight and the temperature. You might want to bring the hot end up to around 90F.
