They have better eyesight than most snakes, they live in dry open land in a few different states on the west coast, they eat venemous snakes, their also one of the fastests snakes around

I use cypress mulch and they like it around 80 85 during the day and 70 at night.these guys will eat anytime you put food in front of them and they and so inquisitive nervous and curious like how cobras are.

Such a cool looking snake. Congrats on the pickup.
Very cool, congrats! An Eastern Coachwhip is on my short list but they are very hard to find captive born and when they do pop up they are captive born of WC gravid females. There are a few breeders working with Westerns but they usually stick to the Red Phase Western Coachwhips. It is to bad Coachwhips (and other whips and racers) are so under appreciated in the hobby, probably largely due to their reputation of being nervous and nippy, they actually make great captives (or so I'm told by those who keep them) and, as you mentioned, are relatively intelligent. Not to mention beautiful. You should update us with pictures from time to time, I'd be very interested to see how much (if at all) the banding fades as it ages. Congrats again, I'm a bit jealous lol.

Yea dude their no where to be found only wc but i didnt mind wc bc its as close to nature as your going to get..plus after having so many cb snakes its a nice change up.i cant believe black racers and coachwhips are looked down upon i absolutely love them and i cant wait to get my hands on a black racer too.this guy i got today was in captivity for 6 months from some people ive known for a while that know how to take care of any sort of reptile so i was very comfortable with getting him and he is just a mush.
The only real reason I'd prefer to have CB animals is to avoid the issue of parasites. I do have a couple WC snakes in my collection, they are definitely a bit feistier than the rest on my animals but I love them for it. They remind me of the snakes I encounter in the field. Good luck finding the Black Racer and be sure to post pics, as much as I may hate you for it :p
Sweet! How do you catch him when you let him out? They are some fast mofo's!

Hes lightning fast but thats why i dont let him on the ground or out of my sight
Amazing snake! I really like these guys and racers. I've been caring for a Black-Masked Racer and although he can be sort of fidgety and nippy at times, he has definitely made me want to look in to getting a racer or coachwhip of my own at some point.

Nice snake. I have both Racers and Coachwhips, fast and defensive snakes. Keep WC away from any other snakes you have, in case it has parasites.

I come across some bright pink and white ones every now and then while hiking. They are so hard to catch. I have ran straight into cacti while going after these guys.

Coacwhips are cool snakes. I had a 5 foot one in our college collection back in the day.He was actually one of the most docile snakes in the collection and very curious and aware of his surroundings.
Thank you.those black masked racers are sick looking, how did you find one ?Someone brought him into work about a year ago. I work at a nature center so we kept him there. No one else likes dealing with him since he can be so jumpy so it's pretty much just me taking care of him.

I can get Racers, but if you are in NY, you would have to get a Collect & Possess License from the NYSDEC, as they are native to NY. I can not buy or sell them to anyone in NY who does not have the license. Even when I got mine from a seller in Fla., I had to send him a copy of my license.

So northern racer or southern doesn't make a difference?

If they are black racers, it doesn't make a difference where they come from.
