im new to reptiles and im going to build an enclosure for a red ackie. i want to use either melamine or plywood. what i need help with is wood finish and sealant that isnt going to harm or effect the lizard at all but will still hold humidity ok (what most care sheets online have said). i have a friend who is very good at carpentry that is going to help me build the enclosure but he knows even less than i do about reptiles.... also, any any opinions on the wood being used would be greatly appreciated! any recommendations on finish/ sealant? PLEASE HELP!

I only (helped) build an enclosure for an animal that can scratch once (white throat monitor), and i used a thick layer of epoxy resin to seal it off, nothing coming through there. The cage still lives today, 8 years later :D The wood used was a concreteplex type, idk how to translate it otherwise so i hope that makes sense.

Ask around other forums, try a monitor specific forum (they are always building cages) they may have more specific information available.
