Finally, Living Gems is reaching the scale where we can pick and choose our breeder animals for the next year. We will have ten females large enough to breed this season, from which we will choose eight.
Our second pairing this year puts together Kilimanjaro and either Sodalite or Uvarovite in pursuit of a dark red litter. It is a new pairing.
Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro is a gorgeous dark red male from our 2011 Hills-Alexandrite pairing. He was named after one of the tallest mountains in the world, in honor of his father, who was named after the famous mountaineer Sir Edmund Percival Hillary. The name also fit his baby personality, which was a bit on the volcanic side ;-)…though he has long since calmed down. This will mark Kilimanjaro’s first time breeding, and in fact the first time we have bred an LGR-produced animal.
As a baby, from his formal portrait series:

Currently, coiled up in the rear of his enclosure on cleaning day:

Kilimanjaro will be paired with one of two dark red stunners: either Sodalite…

… an October 2010 female clocking in at 2064 grams. As the larger girl. Sodalite is the lead candidate, but Uvarovite is only a couple hundred grams behind her.
Both girls are also first-time breeders.
Thank you, as always, for reading.
