I have always had snakes and I am looking into getting my first lizard. I am aware of the requirements for both, but because they both require a little more work than snakes, time wise I can only really get one for right now. I also have smaller siblings who would have to feed the lizard while I am away.

If you are thinking of having children care for the lizard in your absence than go with the blue tongue. Even though their diets are a bit more detailed they are slow moving and easily caught. They are also much more forgiving of mistakes with diet, temps and daily care.

i haven't had either personally but i would go with the blue tongue, they just seem more handleable.

I'm a huge gecko fan! I think the cresties are awesome because they are very easy to care for. No special heat or lights, require little space but will use big space if provided. Because they are climbers it's fun to play 'find the gecko'. I also find their texture fun and unique, like velvet! Diet is also pretty easy. While young a mix up of live bugs and Crested Gecko Diet (a powder you mix with water) is very simple. Also, so long as they are handled with care, there should be no real issue with them getting away. It's fun to have them jump from your hand as well. =)

If you have more specific questions about geckos, Crested or Leopard, please PM me. I'm more than happy to help. =)

I've had a blue tongued skink for 15 years and I will tell you there is no better lizard. Friendly, healthy and hardy, and super easy to care for. I inherited my nephew's unwanted crested gecko for a little while and they do not interest me at all.

Honestly, skinks and geckos are so different that it's almost not fair to choose between them lol.

Go with which one you personally like best. =)
