Ok, so, I found someone on Cl who is rehoming all their beardies and enclosures but he wants to sell them together (each beardie with it's enclosure). I don't want the beardies but he has an enclosure I really want. I asked him if he would seperate and at first he said yes, if he sells the beardie first. But he wanted a week to see if he could sell them together in stead. I figured that was fair.
So I texted him a bit ago just to check on the situation and now he's offering me the enclosure, the beardie and everything else with it for half what he was originally asking, and tells me that I can easily sell the beardie if I didn't want it.
EVERYTHING for 120$....the enclosure alone is 200$ or better new....and he says that the beardie is worth 50-75$ easy if I sell it.
I want to jump on this so bad....but the main thing is....I live with mom, HATE the idea of flipping a reptile, and would have to literally keep it on the floor until I found a new home for the beardie.
CONSTRUCTIVE comments, opinions, and suggestions welcome.

I think you have your answer.

Yup!
I also already talked it out with the guy lol
He's desperate, but nice....so we are working together on it right now. =)
Keep your fingers crossed it all works out!
Offer $100 and deal with Mom later. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Lol. I thought about that but then it also comes to me not wanting to flip the reptile. Generally if I take on an animal, it's MINE. Granted, that's a personal issue lol.
We got it pretty much worked out though. Going to meet at the local reptile place and he's going to try to trade the beardie for store credit, then I'll pay him 90 for the tank and a few other supplies. As well as trade some of our dubias to promote healthier DBA diversity in both if our colonies. =)
It all rests on if the store will take the beardie though. If they don't. ..then we will figure out a plan C

Beardies make great pets. Might be a good pet for your mother. :D

Lol! I so wish. I'd love one honestly, but space will not permit it. And, I don't really want the responsibility of one either. Feeding and heating and soaking.....nope...maybe in a few years though.
And mom.....doesn't really like that I have any of my reptiles lol. She tolerates me and gives me the stink eye when I talk about getting another.
Besides, I am going to work kn getting a second snake. Having a beardie would impede my well planned out attack kn how to smuggle it in and then give mom the puppy dog look till she gives in lol.

You might want to read the big thread on this site about bioactive substrate. It specifically is about beardies (applies to other reptiles as well). The owner there found that with proper husbandry soaking them is not really necessary. The worst part about keeping lizards is the crickets.

Besides you never know when you meet the beardie you might want it and your mom might think its awesome she can put it on a leash and sunbathe with it in the summer.

You should never spontaneously buy animals.

Yup. I'm planning on a hoggie, not a beardie. No impulse pets here!

Never say never ;) . My Cal King was a spontaneous purchase a couple of years ago and it was one of the best decisions I've made. It reignited a long dormant passion, led me to this forum, and greatly enriched my life :).

Hmmm...I guess you have a point too Ziggy lol. I took kn a free horse about 9 years ago that I knew nothing about. To this day I still have her and wouldn't trade her for the world lol.
However, I do believe in a responsible spontaneous and an irresponsible spontaneous.
At that time I rented a house that had some acreage so it wasn't too big of a deal. However this time, I lack more than I have to support a full grown beardie. Space being the biggest factor.
Either way, the final outcome will jot be fully known until monday when we make the deal =)

Where are you gonna keep the tank you are buying?

It will be replacing a 20 gallon long that I have on a desk. I currently keep 2 female leos in it and they will also occupy this larger enclosure until Calypso is large enough. (So about a year). Then they will go back into the 20L and Caly will go into the bigger one. It's dimensions are 36" long, 18" deep and 18" high. The 20L I can put in a closet whole it's not being used. And Caly is currently in a 10 gallon. =)

The reason I say never, is because everybody likes to think they're exception to the rule. Some people like yourself will do okay, but other people will not. Spontaneously buying pets is a great way to get in over your head.

Oooh yes...that horse I told you about...was a bit psycho...I was NOT prepared to deal with her. I did, because I had what she needed (space!)but it was a rough 3 years before she fully mellowed out.
Love her, but do NOT want that kind of stress in my life right now lol.

I'm right there with you Shaun, I would have never been able to get away with that with my dad.
Minkness, do you have a local reptile rescue? Of so I'd call them up and see if they'd take in the beardie. They(if they're a good rescue) will make sure the beardie goes to a good home and you'd be able to get the cage. Yes you wouldn't make money off the lizard; but if the guy is as desprate as he seems he'll probably take less if you take the beardie aswell. Just a thought.

The closest thing we have to a reptile rescue are local stores that will take them free or for store credit. One is great about their reptiles, the other....I trust about as far as I can throw them =/
The plan is, to meet the guy at the nice one. If they won't take him for store credit I'll fork over 120 and take him home. I already told mom about it. She wasn't happy but she knows that when I set my mind on something, I'll get it done, and I know a fee people that maaaay take him for free if I can't sell him. I don't 'like' that outcome, but sometimes we do things we don't necessarily like for the things we absolutely love.
