For those of you who feed chicks(or any bird really), so you offer them beak first? Or do you offer the snake the back of the birds neck, so that the beak points backward when the snake swallows?

I just... held it in front of my snake and let it strike/coil it. I didn't watch which end she decided to eat first. On the other occasions I just left the bird (f/t) in the enclosure and left.

I don't think it matter which way the beak points or if you can control which way your snake eats it. lol

Not too long ago, I gave my corn snake a chick and it was kind of difficult to watch. The beak was clearly visible going down and looked really awkward. I don't think there is a huge risk, but I'd like to feed them in the safest way possible.

If you're really worried you could clip off the beak before feeding. Not much nutrition there anyway, methinks.

The beak shouldn't do much without a live chick behind imo, it's not razor sharp.

The snake will figure it out by itself. They eat different kinds of prey all the time in the wild and they still survive without our help.

What species do you guys feed chicks to? BP? Carpets? Red tail boa? Or are they ok for anything big enough to take them down. Ive only ever fed mice/rats. But have seen a few threads on here about them and sounds like they have good nutritional value. Just want to see what I have that can eat them before I go buy some.

They are OK for any snake that will eat them. My Cotton Mouths, FWC, Rat Snakes, King Snakes, Corns and Cobras loves them.

Thanks for the advice guys. I know snakes are generally pretty good at taking care of themselves, but I only asked this question because I've seen snakes eat birds both ways. Either beak first, or starting with the back of the head. When my corn ate a chick beak first, he seemed to struggle with it. I just wanted some opinions.

lol mine is taking two hours... if she can't figure it out soon I'll take it out and feed her a regular mouse.

It took my Bull Snake a while to catch on to chicks too. She refused when I offered the chick first. I fed her a small rat and followed it up with a chick while she was still in feeding mode and she slammed it down.

I had to put her together with him 4 times before she understood it was a prey... She also took him with 2/3 bites before trowing her spires around him, she really had no idea where to start from. Luckily the bird was sleepy, he didn't fight back at all, the other I killed myself tried to peck her eye! You really have to be veeeery careful.
I was also worried about the beak's position while she was constricting him. And finally, they told me of a phyton who now eats just birds, can you imagine what it means when he's 20kg? You know what? Mice are the best. But I have to take out the wheel from their enclosure, there's a high risk of affection with this last one, he's so playful...
