I have noticed quite a few people have Bloods and Short Tail Pythons so let's see them. Seem like people just don't take as many pictures and show them off as much as some of the other pythons.
I'll start with some pictures of my two hold back this year. First is the female this girl is a eating machine. Had her first shed couple weeks ago and man is her head light.

Then my hold back male. After his first shed he went from black to ink black. The flash makes it a bit hard to tell just how dark he really is.

Just out of curiosity. But is there a reason their heads are so small compared to their middle?
Bloods are a heavy body snake like Burmese python just in a short version. And don't be fooled by the body size Bloods have some big heads. They just look small compared to their fat bodies.
As of right now, the blue coloration in breits is exclusive to Keith McPeek's ghost line animals. It usually takes a couple years of growth to take on the bluish hue, and seems to be more prevalent in ghost animals that also carry the marble gene. Only the finest examples of these animals actually hatch out blue...Shannon's girl doesn't carry the marble gene, but I'm confident due to her head color as well as some color on her back, will take on a bluish hue as she grows.
I can't seem to post pics from my phone, but I'll put some up later

SSTP stands for Sumatra Short Tail Python. aka Black Bloods.
The only true Bloods are Reds and Red morphs. Borneo's and Blacks are actually Short Tail Pythons. Same specie different sub species. Also something that can make it confusing is there is a Sumatra blood python also which is a true Red blood. They are both found in different parts of Sumatra with a mountain range separating them. Big difference is color, temperament, and size.
As for color they should get dark with age. Some do stay lighter but most get darker.
Thanks Shaun! Yes, the blacks will only get darker with age

i remember the last time i fed an adult blood of my mates.....
it was that still i actually thought it was dead,i jiggled the prey around it,even touching it's face,as i was pulling the prey back and turning my head to shout to my friend, that i thought his blood was dead....
BANG from nowhere it lunged 2 to 3 feet along the tank and ripped the prey from the tongs..
i literally jumped with fright...
for a big fat snake, those guys can move :shocked::cool::cool::D
one of the hardest feeding responses ive ever seen
cheers shaun

The feeding response of an adult blood/stp, is unrivaled for their size for sure. I don't turn my back on an open cage anymore, I've learned my lesson, lol. It's awesome how much of a strike range these short stubby snakes actually have!

I seen them as low as $250.00 on up. You get what you pay for. The nicer one usually cost more. When buying one be sure to check the tongue if it pink it's a Matrix. If not they trying reap you off. That's the only 100% marker for ID them but it doesn't work for albinos.
Shannon sweet looking SSTP.
Shaun your not joking about their feed response. Their strength and speed are insane for something so short and fat. My old Borneo hadn't eat for a few months so i decided to try a live jumbo rat. As soon as it hit the cage floor it was over. He nailed it so hard he knocked the cage he was in off the shelf and reaped the rats head part way off.
Shannon sweet looking SSTP.
It's actually a Borneo, from a marble ghost x normal pairing. Some really neat animals came out of that pairing. Being het for ghost seems to really play with the classic color and pattern Borneos have. I'll post one of the nicer marbles in a minute.

Ok my bad! The back as such a nice rich dark chocolate color to it that i thought it as a Sumatra. But now that i think about it my Marble use to be that color as a baby.
Here's a sibling male marble het ghost from the same clutch, very unique

Very nice! The Ghost gene seem to have some really interesting effects on anything it put with. Like Jeff says i believe the Matrix gene along with the Ghost gene have a lot of untapped potential.

Absolutely, the Matrix gene is very underrated, and the goal shouldn't be just the white snake at the end...Ivories are beautiful, but I think the matrix can certainly be improved on and taken in so many directions.
The ghost gene in Borneo's, although being compatible with ultra breit and latte type animals, is a step above. Keith McPeek has taken certain polygenic traits of the ghost gene and improved on them and taken them in so many directions. From blues, tigers, leopards, honeys, and almost completely patternless super ghosts. Ultra breit and latte type animals are beautiful, but people are just starting to tap into their potential by line breeding polygenic traits, whereas Keith was years ahead of the pack with his ghost gene animals. The "tiger" appearance the animal I posted above has down his tail is proof that the ghost gene can still be outcrossed and maintain certain traits, even in a het animal

So very true. The sky is the limited with what can be done with these amazing snakes. I noticed as there become more and more Blood and Short tail morphs we are finally see people take noticed of the magnificent animals.

Sumatra Short tail pythons aka Black Bloods.
They do all have the same dad but the bottom one is has a different mother. The females are unrelated the dad is on loan from a buddy. This year i have my own male Big Daddy Kane. My buddy is bring his female over to add to the mix. So i 'll have three females and two males all unrelated.
Shaft the father of these in the picture is with my chrome head right now and i will be adding Paul's female with them. Big daddy is with my darker head girl Black Betty. So this year i will have totally unrelated babies.

Chuck,
You have some beautiful looking Bloods. It took me a while but I am posting some shots of my adult female Red Head Brong I picked up this last Fall from Kara at TBC. I call her Madame Rouge! All photos are Kara's and one is a baby shot. Cannot wait to see what kind of offspring she has!

Sweet looking.
I just got my mouse eater to take his first rat. I had started feeding him mice just to get him to eat. Finally after not feeding him for three weeks i try a f/t rat and he nailed it.

I'm sure she would have taken a rat but I wasn't comfortable with the rat size the store had available at the time so I got a mouse instead. I'm going to offer f/t again and hopefully the live will have jump started her feeding response.

Thank you! Bloods are such amazing and impressive animals. It's a shame they get such a bad rap. Take my SSTP (blacks) i have never had a single strike since they were sexed at 3 days old. Very mellow easy going and curious snakes.

Congrats on that Chuck! I have a stubborn female Blood who is a mouser and I really need to get on rats. She is a smaller variety and is dwarfed by my other Bloods that are the same age. I hope I can switch her over. I am trying in the next month or so.
