For size of an enclosure what should I go by? I've been told square feet of the base .75 per every foot of snake which would say a 4 x 2 is good for a 10 foot snake I don't like that. Then I've been told 2/3 the lenght but say my burmese grows to be 18' thats like a 12' enclosure I usually see them in 8' enclosures. Some one help me please I need 2 enclosures guyana red tail boa female and a burmese female I'd like to know what size is good for full grown.
i would go by at least 2/3 the animals full length.
i totally disagree with keeping a 18 foot burm in an 8 foot cage....people should keep big species if they cant give em the room (its selfish), so i would say do it at least 2/3 of full length, just my opinion!

the average rule of thumb is 2/3 the snakes length long 1/3 the snake length wide and high though the hieght is debateable, hope this helps.;)

So if my girl grows to be 18' I need an enclosure 12'x6'x6'. Do you think it only being 4' high is alright? Thanx jason h.

when they reach a larger size they have less of an erg to climb(not that they wont) but they just dont as much so yes 4' high should be fine when i had more space(needed to move) my burm inclosures were 12'Lx6'W x7.5'H though the hight was rarely used by them it was great for me as it was easier to clean i could enter the inclosure for handling sessions instead of taking them out etc. so although you may not need the hight it can make things alot easier on you as well (provided you have the room to do so)

Most large snakes I see are in enclosures like what you're talking about and I just want to come up with the plans now for the enclosure so it wont be last minute. So you all want to hear how messed I am? My burm is only 10 weeks old lol I'm putting her in a 50g. this week so I got lots of time for advice. Thanx:D
