CRB color with BRB pattern, I love it. Would love to see how he changes. Who did you buy this guy from, and for how much? You should join this group for rainbow boas on facebook. :) https://www.facebook.com/groups/4916444193/

I got him from a girl here in idaho, the litter wasn't planned, the female she had had refused to breed for years so she had put her in with a male temporarily thinking nothing of it and then babies! Got him for a hundred, which is better than most crbs here I've seen and about half what I've seen bT&S for. I'm curious to see how he grows up too, I'll keep the forum posted :)

That's a very interesting cross! Had to check out your post, I have an Atticus too, although mine is a Western Hognose.

Where are you at in Idaho? We've got a fairly active bunch of FB groups around the state and several of them have started doing put luck get togethers.

Hey Charis, I'm in Nampa. I would have responded earlier but I got hit with mono and strep at the end of january and kinda fell behind on my posts! Feeling much better now and thought I'd add some new pics of my growing boy (or girl, haven't probed yet and I have my doubts about the initial guesses)

Little update on my boy :) He was just over 30 grams when I got him in September and today he weighed in at just over 100! He's such a great snake, getting to be more active when he's out, I'm thinking his confidence is growing along with his body :)

I always look forward to his updates. I really am jealous lol. Seems like he's got the colors of a colombian and pattern of a brazilian. Perfect mix. Do his markings seem to have lightened any like colombians do?

CrazyAnimalLady
06-28-15, 07:33 PM
So far his markings are staying nice and dark, which is what I was hoping for when I heard he was a mix. When do colombians' patterns typically lighten? The colombian colors really came out after his last shed, thats when that picture on the left was taken but then a few days later he had darkened up again. And by the way I'm jealous of your retic! :)

Yeah, I think it'd be cool if he keeps his colors. Colombians have such nice, earthy colors. It doesn't necessarily happen at a certain time, just gradually. I could tell the difference month-to-month with mine. I might be able to dig up some pics tomorrow. Thanks lol he's a handful, but we'll save that for another thread :o

It's cool to see how Atticus is doing. I have a CRB/BRB cross as well, and I'm curious how she will likely look as she grows.

You're in the Idaho area? I am in Boise :)

CrazyAnimalLady
06-29-15, 10:34 AM
Yup I'm in Nampa. Do you know how old yours is? Wouldn't be surprised if they were from the same litter.

Wingbeats
06-29-15, 10:46 AM
I got Chaska in May, and she was about a month old it seems (That is my uneducated guess, there). I bought her from the guy at Rockin Reptiles in downtown Boise. She is currently 57 grams, and somewhere around....2 or 2.5 feet in length? Almost as long as my arm. So it seems she is younger.

I forgot to ask the guy how old she was exactly, and where she came from....I was too excited about buying my first snake, haha! Maybe at some point I'll go back and see if he remembers.

CrazyAnimalLady
06-29-15, 11:10 AM
Hm she is quite a bit smaller weight wise. I just figured they aren't that common so to see two so close together I'd think they were from the same litter. Either way looks like they're both great snakes :)

Found an odd but fun new place to take pics of Atticus! Kinda funny, I had just gotten him out when suddenly I had to go to the bathroom, I noticed how great the light was in there for him and that the TP holder would make a great perch :p

Still can't quite capture the full rainbow effect though!

I can't wait til he's full grown, I work at a store that sells reptile supplies (among other things) and I keep planning out his big enclosure, so hard to resist doing it now! I know myself though and if he's not at least close to full size when I move him in then I'll feel like he's outgrown it one day.

SnoopySnake
10-26-15, 03:14 PM
I find that they like to get white walls when its dark and no ones looking. ;) Definitely brings out their colors. Atticus is looking great, seems to be holding that color/pattern pretty well :)

CrazyAnimalLady
10-26-15, 03:21 PM
The only thing I've noticed fading on him is his little yellow crescents, they brighten up again a bit with his white walls still but they are barely visible otherwise. The rest of his patterning is holding strong though :)

Wow, what a gorgeous looking snake. I debated on one of these for my first snake. What size do they usually top out at? I don't think I could go with a full size boa, but I've heard the BRB's stay a bit smaller?

Yes they're smaller than Redtails, but if you want to stay at 4-5 feet get a male :P

Snakesitter
11-23-15, 03:11 PM
Agreed on both points. Generally, females top out at around six feet, males at five feet. They are also thinner than regular boas -- their alternate nick, in fact, is the "slender boa."

The babies are like little pencils -- bitey pencils at first. ;-) (Our first litter has calmed down, but the second one is still a bit spirited. They think the spray bottle is some type of demon to be attacked.)

Fairly typical of most boas and/or pythons that climb IME, they want to hold onto something with their tail for security. Our Dumeril's tail is too stubby though, so she can't hold onto anything like that.
