View Full Version : boa not swallowing
I have a het albino red tail boa that is not swallowing its food. He gets it all the way in his mouth and then will let it sit there and not let it go down. What could be wrong. P.s i got worried after a hour of it still there so i open his mouth a lil and pulled it out safely as possible and it looked like the mouse was balled up.
i just decided to join the group because of a problem i am having with my red tail boa. i tried posting in the boa part but i wont let me, i have a 6 month old red tail boa that is not swallowing his food. he strikes his prey kills it and get it all the way in his mouth but will not swallow it. i know the food isnt to big because he has been eating fine for months until now. what is wrong ?

He could of been tired from the mouse being in an odd position to get it in, if it was really stuck he just couldn't get it down. Doesn't have to mean there is anything wrong with the snake, could be a case of terrible bad luck. Let him rest up for a week or so and try again. - I hope you got it out without damaging any teeth?
Anyway, welcome here! maybe you'll consider sticking around. This forum has a lot of good information on it :D

Agreed. Also try to shift him to frozen thawed if you can as the snake needs to use a lot less energy as it dosent need to kill the prey just get it into his belly. Plus safer for your snake as well.

Welcome to the forum! I agree with what my colleagues said. If it happens again (very unlikely), please try and snap a few pictures as it will help the group help you.

Did it only happen the one time? I agree with others to just wait it out and try again later.
