After getting my first snake when I was 16, my collection has grown over the years. I've sold a few here and there but then I find myself browsing another reptile expo looking for my next scaly friend. I now have 6 snakes, the most I've ever had and yet I already want another! I find these creatures captivating and rewarding. Some are easy to care for and some require a little extra attention but it's all worth it. Is it just or me or does anyone else find that their collection keeps growing?

I think reptiles in general are more addictive than cocane o.o

I started with 1 leopard gecko...had 2 within the first week...then 20 at one time after a while...and no...I didn't breed them O.O

I now have 11 geckos. 6 leos and 4 cresteds and 1 aft. If I didn't have all of those, I'd probably have more than 1 snake all ready lol.

As it is, I'll be adding a 2nd snake in march....and possibly another crested gecko...

Yep, mine keeps growing too! When I got to 14, I thought I had hit the maximum my wife would allow. But then at an expo she got to talking with the wife of my favorite breeder and exchanging notes on the size of our respective collections. Really put things in perspective when she found out that their collection exceeds 500 snakes! Long story short, I'm up to 21 now, which is well manageable enough that I foresee some growth this year.

Wow! I think I'll stop at 5 lol. My MBK now, then a hoggie in march. I'll wait a while then, maybe a year, then add a Garter, brb, or redtail will come next lol. I MIGHT add a black eyed lucy BP at some point, but that's the 'plan' for now lol.

I have 4 snakes and I want just one more, a beautiful Jungle Carpet Python. Then my collection will be complete.

I have to keep reminding myself that I don't have space for any more until I move out a few aquariums. Had 14 of them running a few years ago, and literally too many fish to count. There are always more snakes on the "want" list though... lol.

Ah, I love making plans about what to add next! Right now I have eyes on a couple more Trans Pecos ratsnakes, black milksnakes (you guys with your MBKs have gotten me intrigued but I have a thing for milksnakes), and some undecided boa or Python. BRBs, carpets, chondros, or maybe even some of those strange candoia species. Whatever, it's fun sometimes just to speculate and look at pictures.

Lol. I know the fish addiction as well. I had many many tanks myself at one point. However, I kinda sucked at it...so I told myself I wouldn't do it again until I had the space and money to do a 50+ gallon long, and able to set up a full ecosystem with live plants ect.

Now I have a small 5 gallon hex set up in my living room XD

It's definitely addicting. I have 16 at the moment and definitely want more. But I told myself when I started that 20 was my limit. That for me is a good number. It's large enough to satisfy my scaley desires, but small enough that taking care of them isn't a second job and I can give each animal the attention they require.

Note to self, name next snake Potato Chip. Maybe specifically Pringles.

I have a couple more in mind. But I have to secretly ship them and keep them at my office so the wife doesn't find out.

See, my husband collects arcade machines. ARCADE MACHINES. AND PINBALL MACHINES.

My snake hobby is innocent and cheap by comparison. And less space consuming.

A recent conversation that actually happened:

"Yeah but I can make money with my hobby. I fix stuff for people."
"I could too, if you let me make BABY SNAKES."
"No. You would keep them all."
"I WOULD NOT."

If I had a snake for every machine of his I'd...I'd actually have too many snakes. I don't need THAT many! Just a banana king, and a Russian rat snake, aaaand a Puget garter, and a California red sided garter, and...and maybe that's all.

If you breed amazons let me know! Don't tell Lori. She'll be banging down your door and go into a snake coma.

I started with 1 little boa, now I'd add: anaconda, reticulated python, dwarf caiman, chameleon, desert lizards and maybe even a tarantula. But I could never watch her eating. And a scorpion, and a genetta pardina, I don't know what it should have to do with reptiles but my seller has some...!

Gotta ask. Are you referring to atb's? That's the only amazon I'm familiar with.

Yes. Amazons are usually referring to Amazon Tree boas.

also there's not many pure Diamonds produced in Canada,as far as i can see

Gotcha. I was thrown off when you were talking about getting a blood and then mentioned amazons. Wasn't sure if that was a morph I'd never heard of.
