Drove over a rattlesnake. Venom on tires?

I drove over what had the coloring, markings, and size of a timber rattlesnake. It might have already been dead when I drove over it, but it was laying right in the road while I was getting onto the highway. I didn't do it intentionally! My brain didn't realize what it was until it was too late.

Anyway, can running over a highly venomous snake with a big heavy car at a high speed get venom all over your tires/side of your car? I ran over it with the tire directly underneath my driver seat. Should I get my car washed now? Should I avoid touching that driver's side door until I can wash it?

Do I need to take any other precautions? This just happened about a half hour ago. Has anybody (in history, not on this site) ever gotten any of the effects of an envenomation from being exposed to venom that squirted out of a run over snake? Do I need to shower now or something?

You have nothing to worry about as far as the venom on your tire goes which I highly doubt there is any on there.

Yeah, you're good. Venom is pretty much harmless unless injected. I've been in direct contact with fresh venom on many occasions with no ill effects.

I'm not surprised if it is, many people don't fully understand venom, they just avoid it.

You'd be surprised lol. I know people who actually believe that you have to bury a decapitated Rattlesnakes head at least a foot or so underground so the "poisons" can't seep up to the surface and poison you through your feet. I've been in some pretty heated arguments with friends over such myths, and there are a lot of myths about venomous snakes that are very popular in my neck of the woods. Many people don't want to let go of the old stories, gives them an excuse to kill any snake they come across.

Are there places warm enough for timbers to be out and about? I'm in WY and it feels like I'm on the moon. Hard to believe there can be any warm spots right now. :-)

Well it was on the road, and a black road can gather a lot of heat, so the snake probably needed the heat too because of all that cold, which turned out to be a bad idea.....

Venom is not poison. It's only harmful if injected.

Hey, at least he's asking a question rather than assuming something. I don't see a real problem with the question. Some people don't understand venom like others do.

As said, it's not poison. Just don't get any of it in your eyes. A good long drive at highway speed should solve the problem completely.
