The more I see of RTB's the more I want one. I started out really put off by them. I just didnt like their look but now I think I like it. Size is the only thing holding me back for now

Beautiful snake btw. The christmas "twig" pics are great. How long is she at 1 yrs old?

Right there with you. I've had snakes for years but never liked the Red Tail Boas. Now, I have a Sunglow and a Suriname. Was put off by the size they get but the patterns and laid back demeanor are what got me. :)

When it comes to RTB's, size isn't a real issue. There are related species that only grow to 3-4', and as long as their disposition is good handling a larger one isn't usually a problem. I only ever had to have help once, when my 5' female Colombian boa was wrapped around my neck and under both arms. I simply couldn't reach her to unwrap her, though she wasn't causing any problems aside from holding me up from an appointment. I couldn't take her with me... lol.

If you mean the boa constrictors that stay smaller like Hog Islands, Nicaraguan, etc. they ARE the same species. They aren't related species, they are one and the same.

Ok, so how you'd break down a Hog Island boa is:

Species: Boa constrictor
Subspecies: Boa constrictor imperator
Locale: Hog Island boa

Or, say a non-common boa that stays smaller, like a Bolivian boa:

Species: Boa constrictor
Subspecies: Boa constrictor amarali

also Azzy is about 4.5 feet now :) I was worried about having a big snake, but were growing together :)
