Rhacodactylus auriculatus ~ Gargoyle Gecko ~ just out of the egg, balancing on a Q-tip
:p

I've been experimenting with light and shadows to get a soft 'mood', and this is the closest I've gotten so far. Most of them were too dark or out of focus. Some day I'll get it right. Does anyone have suggestions? I'm using an Olympus C3030 Zoom digital if that helps.

use some warm colours in the background, soft reds and oranges can give it a warm and comforting mood. Esp with the grey gecko you want something with a bit of colour to make it look less cold and more friendly. G'luck with your pics!

Nice little gecko.

You can try to use natural lighting or set up enough lighting so that you don't need to use a flash.

try using different coloured lights, ie red to yellow. avoid blue

You might try some gelled lighting. I'm not sure where to buy it but you can get colored pieces of cellophane, they are usually used in Theatre lighting but you can rig em up to any light source. Great pic in it's own right though.
